Gus

GUS was bought from a breeder by a young adult when he was just six weeks old. She quickly decided she didn't want him by 4 months old, and abandoned him with her elderly parents.

TEMPERAMENT

In the short time that Gus has been with the rescue, he has shown a sweet, loving and affection seeking, steady temperament. He doesn't have basic obedience, and does not understand boundaries, so is working diligently with his fosters to learn all the manners good doggos need in their homes.

Gus does have a reported history of jumping a 3-4 foot fence (he lived outside), so will need either a 6-ft fence, or to be 100% supervised on a long lead line in an unfenced yard.

We will provide behavior updates as we learn more about Gus.

OTHER ANIMALS

Gus was reported by his ex-owners to be both dog and cat friendly, and preliminary tests done once he arrived seem to confirm that. Adopters will need to proceed cautiously with adapting him with cats until they know for sure.

PEOPLE

Gus LOVES people of all ages and sizes that we have seen so far. He is a large boy (just under 100 lbs), so caution should be taken around young children who could be easily knocked down.

MEDICAL

Gus has been brought up-to-date with all vaccines, has a current rabies tag, is microchipped and has been neutered.

Gus was tested for Heartworm disease, which was NEGATIVE

Gus did test positive for Ehrlichia (tick-borne) disease, and is currently receiving antibiotic treatment. Any leftover medications will go home with his adopters.

If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable German Shepherd
who will love you forever,
Gus may be your ideal family member!

GUS' ADOPTION FEE:   $350
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
