Willy

WILLY came to MOGS with his two siblings and mom Nelly, after being dumped on a rural highway.

TEMPERAMENT/BEHAVIOR
Willy’s foster family reports that he’s very sweet and gentle and is a lovey happy boy! He has bonded quickly to his foster parents and his foster fur-siblings. He loves getting pets and is pretty good about settling down when he needs to. Overall, he has a very friendly temperament, but has shown a little fear in new situations. Surely as a result of his time on the streets, he is a little nervous about the dark. He prefers to stay in the light on his walks and will pull a little if going where the streetlights don't shine or are blocked by trees. His new family will need to help him work on his confidence as he learns that he does not have to fend for himself on the streets anymore. He's very food driven and gets a bit loud about dinnertime or when going out to play with the other dogs but is learning that he doesn't get what he wants until he quiets down. He loves to nap on car rides.

TRAINING
Willy is smart! He already knows his name and learned how to sit in about 2 minutes. He is working his basic manners such as on calming down and sitting to get food and in/out of crates. He is crate trained and doing well with his potty training as long as he's taken out regularly. Because of his fear and nervousness, his future family will need to help him with his confidence by socializing and introducing him to new things while respecting his need for slow introductions to these things.

PEOPLE
He has been a little shy when meeting new people but will warm up after a little time. He's gentle with kids though can be a little unsure at times so rowdiness might scare him.

OTHER ANIMALS
Willy has bonded quickly to one of his foster sisters and has become her shadow. He's calm for his age and does great with his older foster siblings and listens to their signals about when he is pushing too much. He has some initial fear and with other dogs, but he gets over it quickly. He should be given slow introductions to other dogs. He has not been cat tested but may see them on walks. He has not reacted to them but there are a lot of distractions for him on his walks for us to tell if he even noticed them.

If you're looking for a handsome, young GSD
to raise and love forever,
WILLY may be your dog!

WILLY's ADOPTION FEE: $400
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
