Luna

LUNA came to MOGS as an owner surrender at just 12 weeks old! She was diagnosed with EPI at 16 weeks and will require enzymes and other supplements for life. Luna is a sweet loving girl who is ready to find her forever home!

TEMPERAMENT / BEHAVIOR /TRAINING
While she plays and runs like crazy outside, she has learned how to settle inside the home overall. She kennels easily as well. Longer days in the kennel does mean she needs one last let out for potty (preferably by herself so no distractions) before heading to bed. She is free in the home overnight.

She loves a good chew bone (lumabones and antlers). She hasn’t had a lot of play with balls yet due to foster sibling having toy issues, but she would love someone to teach her.

In the early days in her foster home, she jumped the 4-foot fence to get to her foster mom a few times. The last time her foster mom was prepared, corrected her and has not attempted to jump again.

OTHER ANIMALS
Luna does great with other dogs. Luna loves to play hard with her foster siblings. She will run and chase them, bite at legs and “stalk” them.

PEOPLE
Luna loves her people. As much as she loves to play outside, she also likes some good snuggles and scratches.

MEDICAL
Luna has EPI – Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is a malabsorptive syndrome caused by insufficient secretion of digestive enzymes from pancreatic acini. This medical condition requires enzymes on every meal, daily probiotic, daily cranberry supplement (UTI risk), Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach (currently slowly moving from puppy to adult) – her food must be 4% or less fiber and fat.

Luna will still have a normal length life but does require her owners being aware of stools and general activity as well as likely needing bloodwork that’s a little more expensive each year.

Added costs to the average shepherd for meds and supplements likely run around $150/month

If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, loving, VERY active German Shepherd who has good energy,
LUNA may be your ideal family member!

LUNA'S ADOPTION FEE:   $400
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter (over 1 year old), heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
