Stunning SKYE is a big sweetheart, and is so happy to be safe and out of harm's way! Skye was rescued from a house fire along with a Chihuahua. She was found in a basement/garage, and when the fireman opened the door, she was found with a severely embedded collar and badly infected neck, yet she was still friendly.
Skye is doing very well with her house manners. She is quiet and fairly low energy. She does get a wild hair a few times a day and just wants the resident Husky to play with her, but they're not the type that chase and run around the home. She'll pick up his feet in her mouth and lick him all over his face. It's a very gentle sort of play.
Skye is working hard on learning good doggie manners! She's been walking very well on her easy-walker harness. Her forever family will need to take great care with her neck as it continues to heal from the wound left by her embedded collar, so a harness is a must right now! She's working on her people skills, and will sometimes jump up on people when they first come over to visit, but once the initial excitement is over she'll lay down somewhere in the room.
Skye is doing well on her crate training too. She keeps her crate clean, and will sometimes whine for just a bit, but then settles down pretty quickly. Occasionally, once she hears her foster Mom up in the morning, she'll let out a couple of yips to make sure she hasn't forgotten she's there.
Skye seems to be friendly with people so far, even kids, so we think she'd be OK with respecful kids in her forever home. More testing to come! More information to come as we continue getting to know her in foster care!
DOGS: Yes, Skye seems to do well with other dogs!
CATS: Will need to be tested.
KIDS: Skye seems to be OK with respectful kids.
IDEAL FAMILY:
If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable German Shepherd
who will love you forever,
Skye may be your ideal family member!
Skye's ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
