MEET ACE and QUEENIE -- a lifelong bonded pair who also happen to be two of the most gorgeous black GSDs you'll ever see! Ace is coated and his sister Queenie is a standard coat. Pictures don't do them justice - they're even more gorgeous in person
Ace and Queenie are littermates who were purchased from a breeder by an 80 yr old gentleman to keep him company. But at age 87 he entered a nursing home -- and his dogs were in trouble. One family member wanted to have these two healthy 7 yr old dogs put down! (Sadly, that's a pretty common scenario when elderly owners become unable to care for their pets.)
But the angels were on their side. The owner's daughter took a stand, refused the very idea of killing them and put out desperate pleas for help rehoming them. Sadly the gentleman had lived alone and never socialized them, trained them, taken them around other animals. No one had any idea how they were around other dogs, cats, kids. They had been isolated from most normal activity and are also 20 lbs overweight. All of which makes it extremely difficult for rescues to take them in. Rescues are simply so overwhelmed with hundreds of dogs, that taking on older dogs (strike 1), unsocialized dogs (strike 2), untrained dogs (strike 3) dogs who haven't been trained/socialized/exposed/taught is like building the Taj Mahal.
And then just as we were working on a place to put Ace and Queenie, a wonderful foster home stepped up and offered to take them both. A miracle!
Now Ace and Queenie are in their brand new foster digs and off on a new adventure. They're delighted to be around people again and are soaking up the love. They'll gradually be introduced to the resident dogs and we'll see how that goes. It's an adventure for them AND for us!
ACE AND QUEENIE MUST BE ADOPTED TOGETHER. Over the years we've found that most pairs can (and should) be broken up, Ace and Queenie truly are bonded. Ace especially would be lost without his sister, who seems to be the one in charge with Ace content to follow her lead. And they make a wonderful pair of loving companions! They're cuddlers and kissers, wigglebutts who love attention.
Are YOU interested in a ready-to-go bonded pair who are past puppyhood but still have many years of adventurous living and loving ahead of them? Ace and Queenie may be your heart dogs! Apply now!

ACE & QUEENIE's ADOPTION FEE: $500
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
