WINSTON is a sleek, stunning young man who's had a couple of bad breaks in life. The first bad break was having a family who knew nothing about shepherds, nothing about high-drive shepherds, and never exercised him enough. He was one pent-up ball of energy. The second bad break was when a family relative he'd never met decided to grab his neck and pull him away from a food bag - which startled Winston and he turned and bit the stranger.
So he ended up in a shelter as a "bite dog" -- and was on the euth list. No rescue would take him. We did. He's a mixture of GSD and either Dutch Shepherd or Belgian Malinois. He's high-drive and high-energy. He needs a job or he gets all pent up and gets himself in trouble. Despite all this, we didn't think he should die because he had bad owners, so we accepted him into our program.
Sadly, he's been in boarding for several months due to not enough people willing to foster a dog. He's doing ok, but as a high-energy dog he desperately needs a foster home!
Eventually Winston had a week of foster care with a Belgian Mal rescuer and he became a 1,000% different dog! At the end of the week he found his forever home with, ironically, an applicant who had applied 6 months before for a different dog. Although he's an only pet, he's getting plenty of exercise, stimulation and training -- and is set for life!

WINSTON's ADOPTION FEE: $250
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so o
