About Jett (in 3-15) | |
|
|
JETT is a medium-sized bundle of energy who's also a bit of a jumping jack! It's funny to watch him jump straight up from a sitting position, which he’ll do just to get some loving! He’ll capture your heart in an instant! He was adopted for several years by a lovely couple, but when they had a baby they returned him due to lack of time to exercise him and supervise him with the baby.
BACKGROUND
Jett was the victim of extreme neglect as a young puppy. His owner threw him out in the backyard with no shelter and rarely bothered to feed him. The owner had several roommates who had indoor dogs, but unbelievably they never even tried to feed poor Jett either. Jett had to watch through a window while the humans and other dogs ate and played. When his owner moved out and left Jett behind, the roommates continued to ignore Jett and never gave him even a scrap of food.
It’s incomprehensible that any human being could sit by and watch a captive animal starve outside their own window, but it happened to Jett. Then one day we got a call from a concerned neighbor who had watched this going on, and although she was in tears she hadn’t thought to give him food either! We raced over -- and even though he’s not a GSD we weren’t about to leave this sweet boy to a horrible fate! The roommates were relieved to be rid of him.
We think Jett is likely a mix of a breed like Shiba Inu and other hunting terriers. He’s a great little hunter and is constantly sniffing out chipmunks in a stone wall he sometimes visits.
TEMPERAMENT
Jett is a lovebug who soaks up love and attention without stop! He’ll crawl into your lap – and steal your heart – if given even half a chance. He can’t get too much attention. Like most hunting breeds, he can also be stubborn and must have a strong leader who will be firm and enforce the house rules. He wanted to chase the cats in his foster home at first, but with strong leadership from his foster mom he learned not to do that. He’s very strong and is so enthusiastic that he forgets himself and jumps up/on you for attention. He sometimes tries to butt in when the other dogs are getting attention, but again with strong leadership he’s learned to share the attention. His zest for life and his enthusiasm are catching, and it’s impossible not to smile at his antics!
CHILDREN
Because he’s so energetic and jumps a lot for attention, we recommend older kids 12 and up only.
OTHER ANIMALS
Jett lives in a foster home with two very energetic, playful German Shepherds, a medium size mixed breed, and two cats. He also occasionally stays in another foster home for a few days at at a time, and there’s usually a variety of GSD type dogs there. The temp foster home is lower energy than his regular foster home, but Jett seems to adapt fairly well to it despite his high energy. However, over a long period of time he still needs an energetic playmate of roughly his own size!
MEDICAL
He’s fully vetted, in excellent health, and ready to go home!
OVERALL
Jett is a loving and wonderful boy who survived extreme neglect. He’s high energy, needs lots of daily exercise and play, and would be a terrific running buddy. He’d also likely be great at things like disk dogs, agility and more. He needs an active family who will give him lots of love, attention, affection, and exercise. He also needs to be with a strong leader, as he can sometimes be stubborn (common with hunting breeds) and needs to be reminded of the rules of the house. If you have lots of love to give, want lots of love in return, are active, and can be a strong leader, Jett will be your best friend for life!
If you're looking for a smaller version of a German Shepherd,
and an energetic, affectionate fella to love you forever,
JETT may be your new best buddy!
