DAHLIA is a sweet, young pup who's showing she has a huge zest for life! Dahlia was confiscated for neglect, along with her brother and sister (Jacinto and Vinca). We suspect they may have originally come from a puppy mill, but we can't say for sure. When we first met them, they were terriried to be around humans, but once they were around other dogs, their tails couldn't stop wagging!
Dahlia has started to open up in the short time she's been in foster care so far, so we believe she'll adjust to her forever home quickly. She's showing some spunk and a typical puppy personallity -- very mouthy, herding people, and some jumping up. She's getting along wonderfully well with her tolerant foster fur-siblings! Due to her past experiences, we REQUIRE another medium-to-large dog be in her adoptive home.
We immdiately noticed how malnourished the pups are, as the bone structure of Dahlia's legs is not good. She is now on a high-quality diet and is already making improvements! She will need to continue being on a very high quality diet for at minumum, her entire first year.
Dahlia just went into foster care, so please check back often for updates on this darling girl!
DOGS: Yes, another dog of medium-to-large size is REQUIRED. Dahlia finds comfort in other dogs, so her housemate(s) should be such that will tolerate a young pup wanting to get some snuggle time with them!
CATS: Unknown, will need to be tested, but give the age, we suspect she would do fine with supervision.
KIDS: Unknown, will need to be tested. She's extremely mouthy and will likely herd children in her family, so it may be better for her to be in a family with older children.
IDEAL FAMILY: A loving, active family who will provide the proper "upbringing" for the next year or two -- i.e., training, leadership, boundaries, rules, guidance and TONS OF LOVE and snuggles and exercise.
If you're looking for a sweet and spunky, trainable furball
who will bring you a dose of daily joy,
DAHLIA may be your ideal family member!
DAHLIA's ADOPTION FEE: $250
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
