RUDY is a beautiful, loving boy who's overcome so much and is now looking for a forever family to call his own! Sweet
Rudy was found as a stray and was in horrible physical shape. He was starved and had demodectic mange (the non-contagious type), which had claimed a large part of his hair. This handsome boy also had all the "junk" that a starving, neglected dog typically has - kennel cough, ear infections and diarrhea.
But that's all in his past now -- he's healthy as a horse, fun-loving, and rarin' to get on with the rest of his life by sharing it with a fantastic forever family!
Rudy is a little on the smaller side for a GSD, weighing around 69 bs. He's a fighter who overcame adversity and is now a lover, all in one smaller package! He bounced back from extreme neglect and loves the entire world! He greets each day with such zest and expectation that it's impossible not to grin with him. Thanks to his amazing foster family, his coat is back and the mange (non-contagious) is under control. Like many GSDs, he's prone to ear infections (like many GSDs) and needs to be on grain free food.
Rudy has a terrific personality and has fit in perfectly with the pack at his foster home. He's great with his foster fur-sister, who's a young pup and sometimes climbs on him to get him to play. Rudy takes it all in stride, since he loves to play too. He does well with other dogs - he lives with larger dogs. We haven't seen him around small dogs and would need to test that. He really likes to chase those cats, so at this time, we're recommending a home without them.
Rudy is a medium-energy kind of guy - he'll play ball as long as you'll throw it, but settles nicely and loves to curl up with you too! He's just an all-around A#1 guy and some family is going to be V.E.R.Y. fortunate to have them join their forever family! Is that YOU?
Here are a few things he LOVES:
- His ball: His foster family says "He loves, loves, loves his ball. He is extremely ball focused and will chomp on one for hours at a time, so his forever family will need to be ready to supply some good rubber balls indoor and out!"
- People: Rudy LOVES people, and is perfectly fine with those he knows, as well as meeting new people. The way to officially win him over? Our previous point - bring him a ball!
- Talking: He is a talker when he plays and when he's ready to get going for the day. So adorable!
Something for him to work on:
- Sharing his Toys: He sometimes prefers to keep his toys to himself and not share them with his foster fur-siblings. With an attentive leader, and continued work, we believe he can and will completely train out of this behavior.
DOGS: Would love a doggie buddy. Large-sized dogs recommended. Small dogs would have to be tested.
CATS: No cats. He loves to chase them, so we're recommending a home without cats.
KIDS: Kids should be OK with good supervision. Especially when in play mode, Rudy could easily knock a small child over when going after his ball.
IDEAL FAMILY: A family who will give Rudy the life he should have had from the start - full of life, leadership, and love.
If you're looking for a gorgeous German Shepherd
who is past the crazy puppy-energy stage,
and who will love you forever,
RUDY may be the one for you!
RUDY's ADOPTION FEE: $300 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend
over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
