About Max & Heidi - BONDED PAIR (6.14) | |
|
|
MAX AND HEIDI are an incredible bonded pair of the most beautiful German Shepherds we've seen in a while. Max is 3 yrs old and is a coated GSD with somewhat unusual coloring - he's black and tan but also has chestnut/red mixed in. He's truly stunning. And gorgeous Heidi is 7 yrs old and a heavy saddleback girl who almost looks like a bi-color. Both seem to be wonderful dogs who just want to relax and enjoy life.
These two were left with nowhere to go when their 81 yr old owner died. He had been on dialysis for 5 years, going 3 days per week and needing a day in between to recover. Max, at just 3 yrs old, has never known a normal schedule or homelife. Heidi, at 7 yrs old, probably remembers a more normal time before her owner became ill, and we hope her memories will come back and help her transition back to being a loved indoor pet.
Max and Heidi are truly a bonded pair and MUST go to a home together! Heidi is the boss, but there doesn't appear to be a significant issue of dominance or submission between the two of them. They will make some lucky family an absolutely magnificent pair of loving companions.
The kids are in a wonderful foster home together and are "decompressing" right now. They're doing very well with the housetraining and have not had any accidents in the house. They're good about going into their crates, which have comfy blankets and are next to the air conditioning vent. They seem to really enjoy the comfort of the blanket and the cool air, compared to the outdoor life they'd been leading.
Their beautiful coats are in rough shape from being outdoors and they have scabs from the outdoor life, and we are working on getting all that cleaned and healed up. Max's long coat is absolutely stunning and we can't wait to see him once he's been groomed. We're going to let them finish decompressing before we attempt to groom them, but they'll soon be scrubbed, brushed and blown clean!
Max and Heidi seem to be pretty calm dogs overall. We know they can jump a 4 ft fence, since they did it at the owner's rural property to go visit a neighbor dog (they were lonely and bored). But they've made no attempt to jump the baby gates in the foster home so far. The resident dogs in the foster home are getting used to Max and Heidi's presence, but no introductions are being made for a while. We will s-l-o-w-l-y introduce one dog at at time to the resident dogs.
The kids are not used to collar and leashes, but did amazingingly well on a first walk the day we brought them home. Despite being used to "country life", we think they're going to adjust jsut fine to "city life"!
Are YOU the incredibly lucky family who will add these stunning dogs to your family? Are YOU the ones to show them what being loved family members really means? Are YOU the ones to teach them about the indoor life, about loving moments watchingi TV or reading a book, and cuddling? We have the feeling these two will value those moments more than most!
DOGS:
Probably workable, we are exploring this. Doesn't appear to be any real aggression, just lack of familiarity.
CATS:
Unknown, would have to be tested
KIDS:
Unknown, would have to be tested. Both are XL dogs so diligent supervision would be needed just due to their size
IDEAL
FAMILY:
A family with a large, securely fenced yard (6 ft fence required), and the desire to help these two dolls emerge from an outdoor life of neglect to an indoor life of love!
If you're looking for an already-bonded pair to brighten up your life,
a pair who
will love you forever,
MAX & HEIDI may be your very own "Dream Team"!
MAX & HEIDI's ADOPTION FEE: $500 for both dogs, fully vetted
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
