PIPPI is an adorable, sweet, loving, energetic ball of life and love!  At just 3 months old, she's sweet, affectionate, lively, and eager to learn.  She loves people and other animals, including cats and dogs both.  She thinks everyone is here just to play with her, and watching her run and chase just makes you grin!

Pippi was surrendered by a loving family who bought her from a breeder who kept the litter in filth.  They'd always wanted a German Shepherd, but soon discovered they weren't prepared for an energetic puppy with lots of sharp puppy teeth who was always jumping and wanting to play, play, play.  Fortunately, they realized very quickly that they were, in their words, "in over our heads" and asked us for help.  We were glad to give it, and the couple were sad to see her go but happy that she will get the training and exercise she needs.

Pippi is in a foster home with 3 other dogs, including 2 female GSDs, and a cat.  Within minutes of arriving, she was overjoyed to meet the first GSD and just wanted to play.  They soon had their heads in the same water dish, drinking side by side.  She went bounding up to the cat, who hissed and swiped at her, and she fell backwards as if "Huh?  What's that?  What'd I do? That's silly!"  There doesn't appear to be an aggressive bone in her body.

Within hours she was out with all the animals, including an alpha female.  Pippi kept trying to get the other dog to play, but the other dog was tired and kept telling Pippi to back off.  Pippi - who's untrained and doesn't "get it" yet - just kept bothering the other dog, and she finally put Pippi in her place.  She pinned Pippi down and let her know enough is enough.  Pippi is now much more respectful of what the other dogs are telling her - she's getting the message and is responding quickly and appropriately.

Pippi is smart as a whip and quickly figured out a game of chase with one dog - he's faster than Pippi and when he disappeared around a bush, Pippi stopped and waited til he came back around!  She responded instantly to the correction of the alph female.  Everything we're seeing indicates that this little girl will learn quickly and respond very well to correction, boundaries and training.

Pippi is house trained, crate trained, and actually has pretty good house manners which just need to be reinforced and continued.  Like all GSD puppies, she "mouths" (a natural herding behavior for GSDs in which they grab hold of the nearest arm or leg with their mouths) and we have already started trained her to not do that.  She also sitll does the puppy nipping.  And those puppy teeth are sharp - they hurt - and we've already started correcting her on that as well.

She MUST have a doggie buddy to play with, of approximately her own energy level, and a securley fenced yard is STRONGLY preferred!

Overall, Pippi is a gem - sweet, adorable, loving, loveable, a cuddler, full of life, joyful, playful.  She loves people, dogs and cats.  She just wants to enjoy life and play, but is a quick learner.  She's a fantastic puppy for the family who's willing, able and ready to deal with typical German Shepherd puppy behavior, train her, and exercise her appropriately.  Are YOU that family?  Are YOU the ones who will bond with her, teach her, and love her for life?

DOGS:                     YES!  Must have a doggie buddy to play with
CATS:                      Yes.  Is good with the cat, though curious
KIDS:                      Yes.  Would be great with kids, with training
IDEAL FAMILY:       An active family with at least one other dog as a doggie buddy, and the time and love to train her, continue her socialization and normal puppy development.

If you're looking for a gorgeous, young, trainable German Shepherd
who will love you forever,
PIPPI may be your ideal family member!

PIPPI's ADOPTION FEE:   $350
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save.  On average we spend over $450 on each dog.  We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then.  We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit.  At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip.  In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
