About Charlie C (in2.14 - a6.14) | |

|
CHARLIE C is one of those dogs whose eyes capture your soul the minute you meet him -- there's something about this boy that just fills you with awe. He's a soft-eared (or floppy eared) German Shepherd with a gorgeous coat and an awesome personality!
Charlie C was dumped at a city shelter at just 1 yr old because "he got too big" (who gets a German Shepherd and then complains they're "bit"??). He was adopted to another family who kept him a few years but then started leaving him mostly out in the backyard unattended and alone. We're told that during the times he wasn't outdoors, he was kenneled and alone. Predictably, Charlie C escaped their short fence and went looking for company. The owners blamed Charlie C for being lonely and bored, and dumped him back in the shelter yet again. At the time they dumped him, he was probably 15 lbs underweight -- so it appears they also quit feeding him. Who can blame this sweet boy for seeking out his own adventures and food?! We recommend his future family has a 6' privacy fence for obvious reasons,
Charlie was on the kill list as a two-time returnee -- even though both times he was the victim of irresponsible and selfish humans. We rushed over to meet him and he was gentle with our volunteer. He seemed to quietly beg "Help me, I don't understand any of this". So we did. Charlie C went to a wonderful foster home where he decompressed and got adjusted to the idea that he was both loved and fed, as well as allowed to be with people and other dogs. He has some food aggression around other dogs at first, but this has been overcome with gradual training consistent feedings.
Charlie is in a foster home with young children (ages 7 and up) and 3 large dogs, and is doing great. His foster family adore him and think he's the best thing ever. Despite the fact that he's not a puppy, he's very playful - for instance, he LOVES chasing the sprinkler or hose (see the video) and, like many GSDs, he clicks his teeth when he's happy! He's sweet, loving, funny and having the time of his life. He's still a true German Shepherd (for instance, requires proper doggie introductions) but in almost every way he's an awesome dog.
It will be a very lucky family who is privileged to take Charlie C home for a lifetime of love and happiness, companionship and fun. Are YOU the fortunate one? Are YOU the one to share his love and joy? Apply now to adopt our wonderful Charlie C!

CHARLIE C's ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
