About Charlie O | |
|
|
CHARLIE O is an incredibly handsome sable German Shepherd. At just 1 year old he has already experienced horrible cruelty. A Nebraska shelter received a call from a volunteer who said that Charlie’s owner was going to shoot him as he "supposedly" killed a calf. The owner has beaten and kicked Charlie on numerous occasions. Fortunately local animal control officers rescued Charlie from that terrible situation.
Charlie is now a MOGS Dog and is in a wonderful foster home. He's doing well at potty training and is learning house manners. He is being crate trained and doing well. He does not know leash manners but is learning very quickly.
Because of his past he is a bit leery of men. He is slowly learning that not all men are harmful. He's incredibly smart and will be a wonderful dog once he gets the hang of "normal" living as a loved pet.
Charlie is rambunctious and energetic, but not hyper. His new family must be active and provide both the extensive daily physical exercise and mental stimulation he needs. He’s loving and loveable, bonds easily with his humans and will bond easily with you. He’s hungry for stability, eager for a loving, forever human family. He’s also a smart cookie and is responsive to correction.
Charlie absolutely adores having other dogs to play with. He is currently living with two German Shepherds and is already a member of the pack. They all play long and hard together and have a blast. For that reason, we strongly prefer that Charlie have a play buddy -- a dog who will match his energy and play level -- and who’s large enough to play long and hard with him.
Charlie would probably do very well with kids, though we recommend older kids at this time while he's adjusting to a new, gentler, kinder life.
DOGS: Yes. NEEDS A LARGE DOGGIE BUDDY TO PLAY WITH. Small dogs are unknown and would have to be tested. Currently lives with two German Shepherds and is having a blast.
CATS: Yes. He lives with cats in his foster home and is interested, but only in a playful way.
KIDS: Unknown, would have to be tested.
IDEAL HOME: A loving, warm, loyal, kind family who will treat Charlie RIGHT - give him comfort and tons of love - and teach him that some humans are truly good and loving. Needs a family with another dog (large & playful). Large, fenced-in yard strongly preferred.
CHARLIE O's ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
