About Kari | |
|
|
Kari is an absolutely beautiful girl who ended up in a high kill pound in southern Missouri, where most dogs don't have a chance. Thanks to a local rescuer who alerted us to Kari's situation, we were able to pull her out and save her life!
Due to a shortage of people willing to open their homes and hearts to foster, Kari is in boarding. We have not yet observed her in a home setting. However, what we've seen while working with her indicates that she's a super nice girl who will be very loving as well as having a mind of her own. She's long on enthusiasm and short on manners right now - she still jumps on you and "mouths" you - so it appears her original owners did little to nothing in the way of training or discipline. She will need training and the structure that all German Shepherd puppies need. Based on what we've seen, we believe she will be easily trained - she seems very responsive to correction and is a smart girl! It appears that she just needs consistency and a loving leader who will show her the ropes and enforce them.
We introduced Kari to Jasmiine, another of our program dogs in the same boarding kennel, and within 5-10 minutes they were playing very nicely together. Only once did Kari try to dominate Jasmine, and with a quick correction from us she instantly stopped. In a few minutes, she rolled over on the ground in a submissive posture and showed her belly to Jasmine, inviting her to keep on playing. We think Kari could probably get carried away and get too rough in play if not supervised properly, but that all she needs is guidance and she'll quickly learn. We haven't yet tested her with small dogs or with cats, and both of these would need to be tested. But Kari seemed to really crave the company and play of the other dog, so we think she would enjoy a doggie buddy!
We haven't had the chance to test her around kids yet, though we suspect she will do well. She seems to have an even temperament and a good disposition - just an untrained puppy whose first family didn't do much for her, and now needs training, discpline and loving leadership.
DOGS: Kari has done well with large dogs, and would have to be tested with small dogs. Would probably like having a doggie brother or sister to pal around and play with
CATS: Unknonw, would have to be tested
KIDS: Has not been tested, suspect she would do well
IDEAL FAMILY: An active family who will provide her with the structure and training she needs as a youngster without much training in her previous home. She may be a little bit strong willed but appears to be very teachable and responsive!!!
