About Grace (2) | |

|
GRACE is a beautiful, gentle and sweet girl who has the distinct advantage of being past the hyper-active, chewing, countersurfing, mouthing, youngster stage! She's a lovely girl who loves people and other animals, and is just a gentle and loving girl.
Grace was found starving by a woman in southern Missouri (a hellhole for animals). This kind woman had dogs of her own, Grace ran and played with the other dogs and a neighbor cat. But if the woman raised her voice to call one of her own dogs, Grace immediately hit the ground. It's clear that Grace was not treated well by her former "owners", who used her for company until they were tired of her and then dumped her.
Grace's story took a very odd turn. We agreed to take her in but because it was only 2 before the 4th of July we needed time to arrange transport. We managed to locate a temporary foster in the area who agreed to take her in for a short while. Unfortunately, that person then left town unexpectedly and left Grace in the care of another person, who left Grace in out door pen all day while at work. When that person came home, Grace was not in the pen! THey had "lost" poor Grace!!!!
They didn't bother to call and tell us this, and made very little effort to find our poor girl. No flyers, no calls or visits to vet offices or shelters, no drive-arounds. They didn't return our transporters calls or emails, or ours. Two weeks went by. Finally the temporary foster answered the phone and told us the story. We were absolutley devastated!!
We sent out feelers for help along with massive prayers for Grace's safe return.
And amazingly, a month or so later, she was found in a small, high kill pound that sends dogs to Joplin Humane Society where most are killed. She was spotted there on a Monday and was scheduled to be sent to her death Tuesday morning!
We couldn't believe it and immediately made arrangements to get her out and up to his that day.
Grace is a survivor and has an angel on her shoulder. We're so very glad she came back to us!
Due to a lack of people willing to foster, Grace has unfortunately been in boarding. She is a well-behaved girl there and a favorite of kennel staff because of her gentle, unassuming, undemanding nature. She's grateful for all love and affection, and just looks at you with baleful eyes when it's time to leave.
Grace is currently scheduled to have heartworm treatment in November. She has already had signficiant dental work done - her mouth was a "mess" (technical vet term!) and she had to have several teeth pulled. She also had dental disease. The vet was surprised she was still eating at all because she was had to have been in real pain. After her heartworm treatment, she may need another dental.
And through it all she's a trooper - never complaining, always loving and grateful for affecton! Amazing!
Grace may have some separation anxiety and try to escape when not securely crated while you're gone.
DOGS: yes, great with other dogs
CATS: we haven't seen her around cats but were told she was fine
KIDS: proabably, haven't seen her around kids but others say she's fine
IDEAL HOME: a family who can spend a lot of time with her, shower her in love, and show her there are kind humans. Grace is full of life but does not need a terribly active home, and would do fine in a calm home as well.
If you're looking for a lovely, sweet GSD girl who will be your best friend for life,
GRACE is your girl!
GRACE's ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend on vetting and boarding the dogs we save, and has not changed in 7 years despite dramatic hikes in vet and boarding prices.
