NOTE: SAR stands for "Search and Rescue" and refers to the teams who do search and rescue work during disasters, find missing persons, etc. Bogie is a perfect SAR dog in temperament and skill, is currently in SAR training, and will ONLY be available for adoption to qualified SAR handlers.
BOGIE is a lively, loving, living doll! A classically handsome black and tan German Shepherd, he's full of energy and vitality - and will keep you young! He's a whirlwind of energy but can settle down when exercised properly. He ADORES playing ball but the frisbee is definitely his first love! He will play frisbee non-stop as long as you can stand it! He would make a terrific agility, running or frisbee dog. Bogie is definitely a high prey drive dog!!!! He can NOT be around cats, rabbits or other small animals.
Bogie was found running stray in a small Missouri town with several other dogs. All were rounded up by officials and taken to a vet in a neighboring town to be killed. The vet, who works hard to avoid such killing, called us about Bogie and we immediately said "of course!". (The good news: all but one of the other dogs were also rescued. One was euthanized for human aggression. We send prayers for Bogie's buddy who is now at the Bridge.)
He lived in a very loving foster home with a number of other dogs, small and large, and did fine with them. It took him a little while to adjust to being in a house, in part because he was stray for so long but in large part because he also has SUCH a high energy level that he tends to bounce off the walls. He lived with foster teenagers and gets along with all humans. The only concern around very small children is simply his size and energy level: he could and would easily knock a small child over in play if not supervised properly at first. Note in one video that he follows a small child around - but what he's really following is the frisbee in her hand!
Bogie's foster mom called him "scary smart". Within a week of being in his foster home he was doing off-leash work and made no attempt to wander off. His foster parents were able to recall him even when he was chasing a rabbit or squirrel - although when he came back, his whole body was literally trembling with excitement. He is a high prey drive dog and needs a job to do!!
Bogie quickly learned sit, down and stay with minimal work. He kennels nicely and will go in on command. If you provide the extensive exercise, good leadership and consistency he needs, Bogie will be easily trained!
He's gorgeous, sweet, loving, fun and lively - what a great combination for a very active family! Bogie will be an incredible lifetime companion!!
Bogie is currently in foster care with a SAR trainer and is taking everyone by storm. It appears he will be a rubble dog, as well as a wilderness and urban dog.
DOGS: definitely! Would LOVE a doggie buddy to run with
CATS: NO!!!! Very high prey drive! He literally shakes when chasing prey
KIDS: yes, just big and RAMBUNCTIOUS so would have to be supervised while learning gentle play
IDEAL HOME: a very active family! Bogie needs A JOB TO DO!!!!! He MUST have extensive DAILY exercise with a ball or frisbee. He also needs the training, leadership and exercise that all young GSDs need.
If you're looking for a loving, lively, adorable young boy
who will be your SAR teammate and FOREVER family member,
BOGIE is your guy!
