DECEASED EARLY 2019. Euthanized. Had developed confusion and dementia starting Jan. 2019. Vet was consulted. Cautioned them to watch for signs of aggo. Several months later, Stella bit a visiting friend of the son for no reason. She was always people friendly, it was just dogs she didn't like. Hatches decided they either had to keep her kenneled while others were there, which is often, or put her down. They felt she would be miserable kenneled, and often no longer knew where she was, got lost on walks she's taken since 2012, etc. Decided to euthanize her. BOUGHT A PUPPY FROM A BREEDER Aug. 2019 (breaks my heart). Did their research and say is a responsible breeder. They visited the kennel. Sigh.
PM'd Terri when I saw she had a new puppy. Terri told me what happened. Said she struggled with going the rescue route, then the old excuse "We wanted the kids to experience a puppy and to train it". I think I'll explode if I hear that once more. Same thing my parents said when I was a kid and our cat kept having kittens "We want you to experience the joy of birth." BS. Simple ignorance.
ADOPTION FEE: $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet and board the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level, even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, the adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot. bordatella shot, monthly preventives, deworming and microchip.
