|
MoGS has only had Chikyz in our program for a period of less than 36 hours. Within that time, MoGS has observed that Chikyz has an active temperament, typical for a young German Shepherd of her age. She needs DAILY EXERCISE or will act out in a potentially pushy/aggressive manner. It also appears that WHEN PROPERLY INTRODUCED TO STRANGERS, Chikyz can be very loving and affectionate. She does require proper introduction and warm-up time with new people, what appears to be a minimum of 15 minutes or more. If not properly introduced, she is very likely to be overly concerned/protective and therefore aggressive. We believe this stems from a combination of owners who failed to train / socialize her properly, and having been left alone in the house for at least several weeks when the owners moved. In addition, Chikyz has also shown to be playful with other dogs. However, just as with humans, it appears that Chikyz has never been taught appropriate interaction with other animals and her initial reaction is to be too rambunctious and “in your face” -- which can quickly lead to an unwanted escalation and/or fight. Adopter agrees to ensure proper and gradual introductions to other animals, in the same manner he ensures proper and cautious introductions to humans. Chikyz has few “manners” in her interactions with other dogs, but appears to be willing to submit to dominant dogs (she submitted to an alpha female in her temporary foster home). Chikyz appears to be a very smart dog and the signs we have seen in her short time with us indicate that, with proper leadership and guidance, Chikyz will eventually be able to learn proper “manners” with other animals as well as proper behavior with strangers.
