MANNY is a STUNNING bi-color German Shepherd puppy (6 months old) who is going to be a BIG boy!!!  He already weighs 60 lbs at 6 months of age.   He's an active, sweet puppy who's smart as a whip and picks things up easily.  He is VERY responsive to verbal correction and very much wants to please his people.  A good canine leader will find him fairly easy to train.

Manny is also a lover boy - he truly wants to cuddle with you!  He loves his tummy rubs and will take any loving you'll give!  He adores playing with his toys, people and other dogs - a typical puppy.   He's glued to his toys and when you roll or throw them he'll play, chase and hop on them immediately.  He loves to play in the water - he prances around in the kiddie pool, dunks his head and bites at the water.

OTHER DOGS:  Manny loves playing with his GSD foster brothers.  He is a true GSD - he is currently trying to push his weight around with his doggie brothers, trying to control the water and food bowls and mounting his brothers.  However, we think this may just be typical puppy pushing-the-boundaries combined with the fact that he's not yet neutered (appointment pending).  However, Manny immediately stops this behavior when verbally corrected, so again we think this is mostly puppy behavior.

CATS:   unknown, would have to be tested.

KIDS:  simply due to his size and energy, older children are recommended.

SUMMARY:  Manny is a GORGEOUS hunk of German Shepherd who is going to be an EXTRA LARGE guy!  For those who love the large dogs, he's a gem of a dog.  His ideal home would be an active family with another dog and a 6' privacy fenced yard.  HIS FAMILY MUST BE EXCELLENT CANINE LEADERS, must begin immediate training, and must have a plan for his continued socialization.  It's imperative that a very large dog like this be "the best behaved dog on the block!"

MANNY'S ADOPTION FEE:  $350
This fee covers only part of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save.  It includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccinations, deworming and microchip.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
