More Information:

SARA is a gorgeous youngster who loves life!  Aside from the fact that she's still a puppy and still needs to learn some manners, she's a lovebug and a goofball.  She loves to play with both people and other dogs, and will make an absolutely wonderful family pet.  Her foster family fell in love with her right away.

As her foster mom says:
Sarah is a very sweet, loving dog.  She has an exuberant  personality and loves people.  She is a large (about 75 pounds) and excitable puppy at one year old. As a big puppy, she is still learning what appropriate dog toys are and requires some monitoring, but overall she is very well-behaved around the house for a dog of her age.

She absolutely loves kids, but interactions with very young kids (under 5) may not be ideal due to her size and sheer exuberance.  She gets along well with other dogs (good dog-greeting skills) but is still working on appropriate play manners.  She tends to play very rough but responds to correction and is learning how to be a better playmate.  She is also working on housebreaking and is doing great (no recent accidents).   With some obedience training and consistent leadership from her humans, Sarah will make an all-around wonderful companion and family pet.

Sara loves her toys and will play tug of war with another dog as seen in her video.  She can sometimes play too rough and be a little pushy with new dogs, but she is learning.  She tends to get right in the faces of new dogs, which they of course don't like, and is gradually learning to gentle down a bit in her play and introductions.  We have not seen her around small dogs but believe she would tend to be over-enthusiastic/rough and need constant supervision at first.  Cats are unknown and would have to be tested.

Sara is a "bi-color" German Shepherd and has an absolutely beautiful coat.  She was in a local high-kill pound, where we pulled her shortly before she was to be euthanized.  We're SO glad we did!  This girl is just full of love and life, and has many long years of joy and loving ahead of her.

Sara is in a foster home with small children (ages 5 and up) as well as other large dogs. She seems to get along with everyone.

Sara's new family will be required to take her through training in order to learn to be good canine leaders.  Like most GSDs, Sara is both physically strong and strong-willed -- and her family must be good leaders.  With consistency and leadership, Sara will be an incredible lifetime companion!

More about Sara

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
