Sasha (11-11) needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping her get a new start?

About Sasha (11-11)

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Adoption Fee: 300.00
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with Tan, Yellow or Fawn
  • Current Age: 15 Years 1 Month (best estimate)
  • Housetrained: Yes

SASHA is a gorgeous, sweet girl who just wants to love and be loved!  A gorgeous bi-color, she's young and energetic but not crazy or hyper.   She LOVES to chase tennis balls and adores it when you play with her.  She has a strong ball drive and will play with her toys for hours, but she will also settle down with you when tired out.  She is crate trained and housetrained.  She cannot be around smaller children as something in their size, motion and activity level scares her.  Older children only (age 15 and up).

We believe Sasha was abused or treated very harshly by a man, because she seems to react more cautiously to a lot of men (especially with a raised hand).  However, she is  in foster care with a man and follows him from room to room, so she has gradually learnedy that life and humans, including most men, can be good.  She enjoys their walks and is responsive to her foster dad, keeping him in sight.

Overall she's a wonderful girl who is very loving, and she gets along with the other dogs at the park.  Every once in a while Sasha can take a dislike to another dog, but this is not common.  Cats are unknown and would have to be tested.  Sasha is dominant and needs proper introductions as well as corrections when meeting other dogs.  She can be a toy hog and try to push other dogs out of the way to get to toys.  Sasha is a strong-minded girl typical of her breed and needs a strong leader who won't let her get away with being pushy.

Sasha was a stray at a high kill Missouri pound and her time was up.  She was confused and upset by it all, and just neeeded someone with the patience to love her and reassure her that she was safe.  She has gained a lot of confidence that she won't be "dumped" again and has blossomed.  She will thrive with your love, leadership and guidance!

Sasha needs a fairly active family who will exercise her without fail EVERY day - rain, snow or blazing heat.  This means about onel hour of interactive exercise a day with her humans, throwing the ball, chasing, etc.  This is in addition to regular daily walks.  Sasha is young, energetic and high drive - and "A tired dog is a good dog."

MEDICAL INFO:  Sasha had a torn ACL in a back leg and we have had it surgically repaired.  She is fully recoved from this but as soon as we can raise the money she also needs hip surgery (called an FHO, or femoral head osteotomy).

OTHER DOGS:  yes, would love a doggie buddybut has to be non-dominant.  Can occasionally take a dislike to some dogs
CATS:   may be trainable
KIDS:   15 yrs and older only
IDEAL HOME:  a loving active family who are good dog leaders.  A non-dominant doggie buddy and older children only.  Sasha is a great dog but is a typical German Shepherd who requires loving leadership.

If you're looking for a stunning beauty
with a warm affectionate personality,
and you're a good canine leader,
SASHA will be an incredible companion and buddy!

SASHA's ADOPTION FEE:  $300

Is Not Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
