More Information:
CINNAMON (aka "Tula") is the first liver-colored GSD we've ever had in rescue. Not only is she a liver GSD, she's what is called a "cinnamon liver" GSD. She has beautiful standard markings and saddle, but in the muted liver color overlaid with a reddish (cinnamon) hue. Her sire and dame were a liver and a cinnamon liver, respectively.
Aside from her stunning and unusual looks, Cinnamon also has a lovely personality! She's a true German Shepherd and is protective of her house, but not overly so. She is very good about staying in her yard, which has a low fence. She is not used to being around small children and that would have to be tested before placement.
Cinnamon's story is a sad one. Her owner fell on hard times and is losing his home. They used to do some backyard breeding, and took Cinnamon's mother and father to a local pound a while back when they could no longer afford to feed 3 dogs. Her parents were seniors - 10 yrs old - and we suspect they died in that high kill pound since owner surrenders are the first to be killed, and as seniors they would have been at the top of the kill list. We pray every night for these two lovely dogs.
But Cinnamon is alive and getting a second chance at life. She LOVES to play ball - she'll run and fetch as long as you'll throw it! We will post a video soon. She is reluctant around strangers at first but warms up pretty quickly. She lived with other GSDs, and with a smaller dog for a while, and did fine. Cats are unknown and would have to be tested.
Cinnamon needs a stable, secure, loving home for the next 6-7 years of her life. She is used to a quiet household of adults and would love to have the same again!
MEDICAL NOTE: When we took Cinnamon to have her spayed, the vet discovered that she had massively enflamed ovaries - he said they were the "ugliest and largest" he'd ever seen. Fortunately a biopsy of the tissue was benign. However, at the time of the spay he also found a large mammary tumor. We later had it removed and biopsied, and it was the lowest level carcinoma (cancer). We then had to do yet another surgery to get a wider "margin" around the tumor area (1.5" is recommended, we were able to get 2.5"). Poor Cinnamon has been through 3 surgeries in a row, had drains, worn an E-collar and been a real trooper. THE GREAT NEWS: SHE'S COME THROUGH WITH FLYING COLORS AND IS FINE.
WILL YOU BE THE LUCKY ONE TO SHARE LIFE WITH CINNAMON?
