More Information:
TITAN is a man with a story! Oringally a Katrina dog from New Orleans, he was sent to Lincoln NE where he was adopted by a disabled woman and lived happily with her for over a year. They were regularly seen in the neighborhood out walking. One day a neighbor found Titan wandering around alone and feared something had happened. Tragically, the police found her dead in her apartment. She had passed away several days earlier, and Titan had stayed by her side for 2-3 days. He finally jumped out a second story window to get help
Titan then came into rescue and thought he had found his happily-ever-after. He was adopted to a couple with another GSD and stayed there for almost 4 years. Then one day the latch on the fence gate broke, the fence swung open and Titan went exploring. He was picked up by Animal Control and the owner had to pay a fine. The owner was furious -- yet still refused to fix his gate latch. Of course Titan continued to get out because the gate continued to come open. He wasn't picked up again, but the owner was furious that he might get fined again, and that when Titan got out he would sit in a neighbor's yard and not come when called. (Perhaps there was a good reason?)
So rather than fix the gate and solve the problem, the owner started calling everyone trying to get rid of Titan. He was furious and just wanted Titan gone!! When he called us we were confused by the story -- it seemed like flying into a rage at a child who raids the cookie jar after you intentionally walk off and leave a full cookie jar and a child alone all day. We tried to be helpful at first and suggest ways to temporarily fix the gate latch until he could get it permanently fixed. But he just flew into an angry tirade, saying he didn't need to be told how to fix his gate and practically yelling "are you going to come get this dog or not, because I'm done with him! I'm taking him to the pound tomorrow if you don't get him." (We were not the original rescue this fact didn't bother him one whit. He didn't want to fix his gate, wanted to blame Titan for walking out an open gate while left outdoors unattended all day, wanted rid of Titan so he wouldn't be fined again, and wanted someone - anyone - to come take poor Titan off his hands.)
We were dumbfounded that handsome, sweet-natured, petite Titan -- who gets along with all people and all animals, and has a truly marvelous personality -- would be so casually thrown away because the owners didn't care to fix the latch on their gate. When we picked poor Titan up, his owners showed there was no love lost.
So now Titan is back in rescue again. AND HE'S READY FOR A COMMITTED, LOVING FAMILY WHO WILL BE HIS FOREVER, LIFETIME FAMILY! No more being kicked out by irresponsible owners. No more uncaring people. No more being blamed for eating cookies from an open cookie jar. No more being thrown away like trash.
Titan is truly a "Titanic" personality of a boy -- he loves people, loves other animals, and brightens when he's in the middle of a lot of activity. He's in a loving foster home that is easing his transition. He loves to romp and run and play, but is also mature and mellow. He's 6 yrs old (early middle-age) but this is a boy who has a heck of a lot of life to live and intends to enjoy the next 8-10 years with some lucky family!!!!!!!!
