More Information:

Rags given name is Raggedy Ann!  Despite the name, though, Rags is anything but "raggedy"!!!!  She's a gorgeous classic black and tan GSD (she's a 'heavy saddle-back'), and is young and full of life and energy.

Rags was first bought from a breeder by people who couldn't have her in their rental housing and had to 'get rid of her.'  Her owner got her at just 6 months old when he stepped up to save her from a bad fate, and has had her for a year.  Unfortunately, she's a youngster full of energy and her owner was slightly older with health problems.  As an experienced German Shepherd owner he recognized that he wasn't able to give Rags the active home she needs and lovingly sought our help to find Rags a good forever home.  He knew this was not a good situation for Rags, and that he couldn't provide her with the proper exercise or training.  He knew she MUST have an active family who will exercise her hard every single day, who will train her properly and who will be excellent canine leaders.

Right now Rags is always in full-steam-ahead mode -- wound up and ready to go!!!  She's curious, energetic and essentially a big puppy.  Rags is loving, enthusiastic and affectionate.  She loves to explore and is curious about things.  She likes being brushed, cleaned, clipped and even bathed.  She adores car rides, doesn't like lawnmowers or vacuums, and is on a natural herb product called "Rescue Remedy" to help her stay calm.  She knows commands such as sit, shake, speak, lay down, come, stay.

Rags is good with kids (has been around 8-10 yr olds but has not been observed around very small kids).  She's curious about strangers and is glad to have company, but if someone acts suspiciously or provokes her, she will respond like a typical German Shepherd and become protective.  Like most German Shepherds, Rags can be very protective and if not handled properly may appear aggressive.  Because she has lived with a single older man, she will need to re-adjust again to a larger family but will be able to handle that with no problem with proper leadership from her humans.

Rags appears to be good with cats (one got nosy with one, she got a snoot full of claws and backed right off).  She hasn't been around tons of other dogs but has been around big dogs and is fine.  Small dogs are somewhat unknown, though she has passed small dogs and seemed fine.  In the owner's words:  "Rags is fine with other dogs if they don't get stupid".  In other words she's a typical German Shepherd:  she may not start it, but she won't back off if another dog starts it.  With excellent training and leadership, Rags will be the quintessential German Shepherd!!!

If you're looking for a young, classic German Shepherd beauty
and can provide an active life with good leadership and training,
RAGS may be the girl for you!

Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
