|
JOLIE is a classically beautiful German Shepherd who is sweet, sweet, sweet. She's gentle and shy, and somewhat reserved at first around new people. But she warms up quickly and starts giving lavish kisses. She's still unsure what's happened to her, and her wonderful foster home is gently coaxing her into a feeling of security.
Jolie lived with other dogs and is fine around them. However, she does not like strange dogs who get in her face and will warm them off (typical GSD). We believe even this is likely to change once she settles down and understands she's 100% safe. We also think she's missing her doggie brother with whom she lived all her life ;-( Jolie is great with kids and is fine with her foster family's cat. She's very responsive and clearly just wants to please and be loved. She's housetrained and very well mannered in the house. She's also crate trained, though she doesn't like it all that well and prefers the couch ;-)
Jolie was abandoned on a farm in rural Missouri after her temporary caretaker was forced to leave the farm. The original owner left Jolie (and her brother Jake, a pitbull) with the farm family and never came back for them. When we got the call about abandoned dogs in 110 degree plus weather, we headed right over with buckets, food, water and ice ... we weren't sure if we could get the dogs right away and wanted to be sure they at least had the basics until we could get back there.
After some initial hesitation, Jolie came right with us. (Dont' worry - although her brother stayed hidden, we got him out within the week.) Jolie was covered in fleas and ticks, so we had a bath party and pulled dozens of ticks off her. We bathed her twice because she was so dirty, and even though she didn't much like it she allowed perfect strangers to put her in the tub, wash her (oh the indignity!), dry her and generally manhandle her! She never once offered any aggression, just a pitiful look as if to say "Why are you doing this to me?" She looked much happier at the end (much more comfy) but still was so unsure of what was happening to her ... it broke our hearts.
Jolie is going to make a very special companion for some lucky family. She has a very special sense of soul in her eyes, a sweetness that's hard to describe. We're out to make sure that she finds the best forever home out there, and never gets bounced around again!!
If you want a soulful, sweet companion
for the next dozen years or more,
JOLIE is the best!!!
