About Rudy

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Tan/Yellow/Fawn with Black
  • Current Age: 23 Years 5 Months (best estimate)
  • Housetrained: Yes

RUDY is a gorgeous boy with a fantastic personality to match!!!

Talk about good-natured yet full of life ... this guy is a gem!  His foster parents are ga-ga over him!  He's sweet, calm, incredibly loving and adores his people.  He's fine with other dogs and loves kids (gives big old doggie kisses).  He also gets along with cats -- he even curled up with one of the foster's cats.

Rudy has gained 10 lbs and needs to gain another 10 lbs, but that's just window dressing -- this boy is feelin' good and lovin' life!!!  He's darn near the perfect dog.

Rudy may technically be a senior but shhhh, don't tell him that!  He's 9 yrs old and now that he's gained weight and gotten over the respiratory junk from the pound, he's rarin' to go!!  He's strong as an ox, has great hips, and LOVES to play in the yard and chase the ball!  He acts like he's 5, not 9.  We grieve for whoever lost him, as he obviously was well loved and well treated until he somehow became a starving stray.  Rudy is well-mannered, gentle, and will be a happy camper as long as he's around you, whether you're outside in the yard playing or curled up indoors watching a good movie.  Rudy is the ultimate companion!!!!

Rudy is very well mannered in the house, doesn't counter surf or get into things, and is a joy to have around.  He's also fine when you leave him, is crate trained and housetrained.

We pulled Rudy from a high kill southern MO pound. Every bone stuck out and he had contracted the respiratory "junk" that's so common.  But for Rudy it was near-pneumonia (our vet predicted a strong chance he would develop full-blown pneumonia).  Thanks to dedicated volunteer Tom A, who dropped everything at the last minute to drive 2 hours up and 2 hours back to get Rudy and get him to the vet, Rudy pulled through without pneumonia!!!  Still it took a penicillin injection and 10 days of strong anti-biotics to pull him through.  His loving foster parents made him a special gruel and kept feeding him til he ate.  As a result he's now healthy, happy and ready to have a good time with a brand new forever family!!!

If you're looking for a gorgeous and incredibly sweet family member,
look no further!!
RUDY's your  man!!

RUDY'S ADOPTION FEE:   $225

ABOUT SENIOR DOGS
If you've never had a senior dog... YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE MISSING!!!
To look into the face of a senior is to know what soul really means.
It is to see the wisdom of the years.
It is to understand love and devotion.
It is to know gentleness and strength.
It is to lend your heart and hand to those final years in a quiet show of love.

More about Rudy

Good with Dogs

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
