More Information:

VIVEKA came from a very high kill city pound where she sat in her cage filthy, matted and drooling mucas from a respiratory infection.  She wouldn't lift her head or even her eyes when we gently called out to her.  She looked utterly lost and hopeless.

Today she's in a foster home with 3 other dogs and doing great!   She's getting good food and is starting to put on weight after weighing a mere 53 lbs.  She was in such bad condition that we had to delay her spay until she put on weight and recovered from the respiratory illness so common at pounds.

We gave Viveka several baths -- and we mean long, deep scrubbings - and finally saw her in all her glory. A truly stunning dog emerged from that filthy bath water!  Her long coat is glorious and now shines.  Viveka is an elegant dog -- elegant in form and look, long and slender with that plush coat -- and turns heads wherever she goes.

She's also VERY affectionate!  She would sit in your lap if you let her ... she wants to hold your hand and will paw you for a shake or a scratch.  She's eager to be loved -- and considering that she's never known much love, she deserves it!!

Viveka is crate trained and housetrained.  She is learning house manners quickly in  her foster home, where she lives with 2 large dogs, 1 small dog and a cat.  She can initially has a tendency to try and dominate some other dogs, especially small ones, but takes correction easily.  After just a few days in her foster home, all dogs and cats were sitting peacefully watching TV with the family.  We believe Viveka simply needs good leadership and training.  She was leaderless in her short life -- probably thrown outdoors and ignored.  So she did what German Shepherds do:  she grabbed the leadership role as best she could.  But she was never trained, never guided, never taught the rules and so is now learning them.  Viveka needs time to learn how to be a puppy and have fun in life!!!!  She is very smart - she already has learned "watch it" and "leave it" as well as "sit" and "down."

She is also a typical German Shepherd whose humans must be experienced handlers and excellent canine leaders.  She needs to immediately start training, be given good guidance, and be showered with tons of TLC..  With training, consistency and leadership Viveka is going to be one whale of an outstanding dog!  Not to mention drop-dead gorgeous...

No dog should ever have to endure what Viveka endured.  To think she's only a year old and has known only cruelty from humans .... is heartbreaking.  Are YOU the special family of good canine leaders who are going to wipe out all Viveka's memory of her bad past, and show her what love is?

If you're looking for a beautiful dog who with training
will be a truly stunning companion,
VIVEKA is your girl!

Viveka’s adoption fee is $300.00.

This fee covers a portion of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save.  It includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccinations, deworming and microchip.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
