More Information:

Age:                             approx. 4  yrs
Location:                     Columbia MO
Temperament:            a mellow, laid-back sweetheart of a boy who doesn’t seem to have any bad habits and just wants to be with you!

ACE is a beautiful, healthy, good old fashioned American brown dog with some shepherd in him – and he’s about as sweet as they come!  He follows his foster mom everywhere and just wants to be with her.  He’s one of those dogs who will be perfect for either a family or a single person, either in a house or in an apartment.   If you’re not outside with him, he’ll come right back in.  If you want to curl up on the couch all day and read, he’ll curl up with you.   If you want to jump in the car, he’ll enjoy the ride with you.  He just wants to be with and please his people!

Somehow Ace ended up in a bad rural pound in southern MO.  He was about to be euthanized when a wonderful foster stepped up and we were able to get him out.  This lovely, super sweet boy was discarded by people who didn’t appreciate the treasure they had.  His foster adores him and says he’s a “darn near perfect dog”!

He’s affectionate, loves to roll over and beg shamelessly for belly rubs, doesn’t chew on anything he shouldn’t, lines up nicely with the other dogs to take his treats, is house trained and crate trained.  Ace is good on the leash, is great at the vet’s office and is medium energy.  He has excellent house manners and is zero trouble in the house (doesn’t counter surf or other stuff).

We haven’t seen him with small children but think he will do fine.  We also think he’ll do well with cats.  His foster mom took him outside on leash to see a rabbit in the yard and the bunny ran but Ace made no attempt to chase it – all he did was walk over, sniff the spot and yawn.

Ace doesn’t seem to know what toys and play are just yet, but he has started to occasionally chew on a Nyla bone.  He interacts just fine with the other dogs in the household although he still doesn’t know how to play with them.  The first few days in his foster home, he growled at the other dogs when they came around his foster mom, but after correction he’s doing just fine.  This is typical in a traumatized dog (find a good thing and protect it to be sure you don’t lose it!) but is almost always easily corrected as they come to understand they’re safe.

In other words, if you just want an all-around wonderful dog, Ace is the one!!!

As his foster mom said when she sent 20 pictures, “Can you tell how much I love this dog??”

If you're looking for a fantastic, mellow boy who’s past the puppy stage
ACE is your guy!

Good with Dogs

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
