GENEVA -- what can you say other than “incredible!!!”

Geneva is named after a remarkable 14-yr-old girl who is the reason Geneva is alive and well today.

This teenager sent out an email about Geneva, who was sitting in her cage at a horrible, high kill pound.  She was filthy, depressed and despairing.  She knew her life was about to end there.

But then the teenager appeared at the shelter and sent out an email plea for Geneva and others, including a 4 month old shepherd puppy.  We committed to take both dogs but, unbelievably, the pound killed the puppy earlier than they said they would.  We were  devastated and knew we had to save Geneva in honor of the puppy.

The teenager took charge:  she pulled Geneva out, bathed and groomed her, cleaned her ears and clipped her nails.  Geneva looked so pitiful and scared even in her bath that it broke your heart.  But as the days went by in those first few weeks, Geneva began to relax.  She started enjoying life.  She KNEW she was safe!  She knew she was loved!  She seemed to feel it in the very core of her being.  Geneva knew:  my new life has begun!

With safety and newfound confidence, Geneva’s sparkling personality has come out!   She is super sweet yet playful, calm yet lively.  She is housebroken, crate trained, and very well mannered in the house.  She’s great with kids and other dogs.  We think she would like to chase the cats to play, but to date has not been near enough to try so cats would have to be tested further.  In other words, Geneva is one of the sweetest dogs around!

Soon the only reminder Geneva will have of her old life will be the permanent damage to her ears (the vet confirms it’s not genetic).  She also seems to have chronic ear infections, easily treated with ear medications.  She was probably confined to a crate so small that she could barely stand, and her ears were broken as a result.  Her ears now permanently “flop”.  Yet it somehow gives this gentle soul -- this sweet survivor -- a very special look.  There is something regal about our Geneva.

We’re looking for a VERY special home for this VERY special girl!!  ARE YOU IT?

From a 14 yr old girl to her parents to MOGS – Geneva has had a legion of loving people working to help her.

Now it’s YOUR turn to love her and care for her
for the rest of her life!!

If you're looking for a calm yet lively mature girl
w
ith the sweetest possible temperament,
GENEVA is the one for you!

Read the Special Story of
the “T” Family Who Saved Geneva

In January 2011, something happened to 14 year old Geneva T.
She found out about the horrendous state of her local pound.
She discovered how many dogs and cats die there.
She discovered the callous disregard workers there have for the animals.
She discovered that they kill before time and talk about dead animals
as if they are throwing out the trash.
Geneva T learned things no 14 year old should have to know.

But Geneva T didn’t flinch.
She didn’t shake her head sadly and then go back to texting her friends.
Instead, she immediately jumped in and DID SOMETHING!
She saw and went to work to change it!
She refused to turn away.

With the full support and help of her mom and dad,
this remarkable young lady is saving dozens of thown-away pets
in her small community.
She goes to the pound, talks to the pound,
watches the lists at the pound.
She puts out email pleas to rescues across the nation.
She posts and posts and posts.
She organizes the pulls and holds on to dogs while transport is arranged.
Geneva and her family are making a HUGE difference in their small community!!
They are saving hundreds of lives.

Geneva T and her equally wonderful parents pulled our Geneva the GSD
out of that hellish pound for us and fostered her.
They ran her to the vet, cleaned up the horrendous filth she had all over her,
kept her safe and even arranged for her transport.

They are a remarkable family and yet ordinary Americans.
T
he remarkable part is that they don’t just talk, they DO.
They’re saving so many lives.
They exemplify what happens when
"ordinary citizens" refuse to sit back and do nothing!

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF EVERYONE DID THIS?

We're honored to bring Geneva the GSD into our program.
We’re looking for a VERY special home for this VERY special dog!!

GENEVA’s ADOPTION FEE: $200
This fee covers a portion of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save.  It includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccinations, deworming and microchip.

More about Geneva

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
