DECEASED, May 2018. Email from Laura and Morris Cook in IA. RIP, incredible boy. Run free and play with Jake and Isabella.
More Information:
SAMPSON is a stunning bi-color GSD who arrived more than 20 lbs underweight. He’s a breeder release, but unfortunately his breeder was a puppy miller. He came in with others from the same puppy mill and all were starved -- every bone showed. All kept their heads in their food bowls for the first week, unable to believe that tomorrow there would still be plenty to eat.
SAMPSON was kept in a tiny cage all his life. He didn’t interact with other dogs, didn't know human kindness, and didn't have enough food. He didn't have house manners and wasn't housetrained. But talk about a boy who exemplifies spirit and forgiveness! After 6 months in our program, SAMPSON has come so very far! He loves his walks and play times, he's starting to play with toys, and he's been to adoption events where he's done great with other dogs.
SAMPSON is a healthy, hardy and loving dog who simply needs good canine leadership and training. He's had a bum deal from humans and is just now learning what love and fun and joy are. It's a pleasure to watch this gorgeous boy "unfold" before our very eyes!
SAMPSON is super smart, full of life / fun / excitement, and is just dying to get in to a home where he can finish his journey to a normal, loving life with a family.
SAMPSON is extremely strong and energetic. He needs an active family who will keep him exercised daily. A tired dog is a good dog!
SAMPSON is fine with most other dogs, though if he and a dominant male are close they may growl and posture at each other. He still acts like a young idiot around dominant males and strutting his stuff. We're pleased with his progress and he also still has a lot to learn.
He is learning the leash and walks well on a Gentle Leader (a head collar). He's a smart boy and we think he'll learn quickly once in a home.
SAMPSON is in boarding (not enough foster homes) and he desperately wants out! We think he can taste the freedom that's just around the corner for him. He's growing impatient. He’s in dire need of a foster or forever home that has a big enough heart to be patient with him and teach him the ropes.
He has done fine with small children at adoption events, but as with all large and energetic dogs, child-dog interactions need supervision to ensure a child is not knocked down during play.
If you've ever wanted to help a puppy mill dog, SAMPSON is your boy.
Please give SAMPSON the chance to be a loved family member for once in his life.
He has many wonderful years of love and pure devotion to give.
Sampson’s adoption fee is $300.00.
This fee covers a portion of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save. It includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccinations, deworming and microchip.STOP!!
