* FOSTER ME!   or  ADOPT ME! *

Location:             Kansas City, MO area
Age:                      approx. 6 yrs
Temperament:   big palooka of a guy ... LOVES to throw around his dishes and bed and dog house.  Still learning how to interact with other dogs.

JAKE is what is sometimes called a "breeder release".  Unfortunately, his breeder was a puppy miller.  He came in with two other GSD's and all of them were starved to the point where every bone showed.  All kept their heads in their food bowls for the first week, unable to comprehend that tomorrow there would still be plenty to eat.

JAKE came in a with a female, shared a kennel with  her, and appears to be good with submissive, large females.  He is still learning about other dogs - other males and smaller dogs.  We are pleased with his progress but he still has a ways to go.  He cannot be in a home with dominant dogs.

JAKE is essentially a big bear of a boy who was cooped up in a tiny cage all his life without any way to work off his energy.  He took to twirling in his cage and throwing around his house and bowls.  The puppy miller then did something our vet had never seen before:   they filed every single one of his teeth down to the gumline.  Jake has no teeth at all.  However, he eats just fine and loves his hard food and treats.

JAKE is extremely strong but is learning to walk well on a Gentle Leader (a head collar).  He's a smart boy and we think he'll learn quickly once in a home.  For now he's in boarding and doing fairly well.  For him, the boarding kennel is 10 times better than his puppy mill days.  Still, JAKEY is in dire need of a foster or forever home that has a big enough heart to be patient with him and show him how to be a loved housedog.

JAKE is not housebroken and loves to throw his dishes around just for fun.  However, he is walking well on a leash and is doing better every day around other dogs.  Small children are not recommended due to his strength and lack of understanding about house manners.

If you've ever wanted to help a puppy mill dog and have a heart big enough to take on a "project" dog, JAKE is your boy.

Please give JAKE the chance to be a loved family member for once in his life.

He  has many wonderful years of love and pure devotion to give.

JAKE's ADOPTION FEE:  $300.  This covers only part of what we spend on vet care and boarding.  It includes (at minimum) spay/neuter, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if necessary, heartworm and flea preventive while in our program, and microchip.

TO APPLY:  go to "FORMS" on the left-hand menu and submit an Adoption Application.

Special Needs: Very strong, needs a strong handler Teeth completely filed down yet still takes treats VERY roughly REQUIRES A STRONG LEADER WITH LOTS OF PATIENCE AND TLC

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
