Location:            Lincoln, NE
Age:                  8 yrs
Temperament:   a sweet and gentle houseguest! A lover

NILES is a gorgeous, sweet boy who was used for breeding and in recent years has lived in a small apartment, seldom even going outside due to his owner's disability.  He came to us with a patchy dull coat and confusion to his late life changes, but after some TLC and receiving a few months of good nutrious food and fresh air and space - NILES IS THRIVING, he is healthy, happy and has a shiny coat again - all he needs is his forever home.

NILES loves people and affection ;-)   He's had a rough life and so deserves to spend the rest of his life in a home where he will get the best of care and be a bit spoiled!  Niles will be your shadow and a truly loyal companion - all he wants is a person he can count on for the rest of his life.  He is the BEST house mate in that he is house-trained, doesn't chew, or get into anything - Not to mention he will be one of the best-looking walking companions you've ever had!  NILES will turn heads when you go for walks, especially with his nice leash manners.

NILES came to MOGS with his father ZED.  They lived together in very cramped quarters (a tiny apartment) for a long time.  Now NILES seems happy to meet every new dog and person he sees.  Great temperments on these boys!!  They will both look at you with their soft sweet eyes and hope you will take them home. We do wish to see them adopted separately as they have done so well apart in their foster homes.  PLEASE - won't you consider adopting NILES?

NILES would do well in a home as an only dog or with other large dogs.  We think he will also do fine with small dogs and cats if introduced properly - as he has aced his small animal tests for us :)  Niles is very gentle with children of all ages, but would prefer a home with older children due to his age and activity level - but he would also make a great companion for grandparents!

Niles’s adoption fee is $200.00.

This fee covers a portion of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save.  It includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccinations, deworming and microchip.

A Word About Our Senior Dogs:

If you can find a place in your heart for a senior, you're in for the best few years of your life! Shepherds are one of the most intelligent, loyal and loving breeds around -- and seniors are the wise men of the breed. It takes a very special person to foster or adopt a senior dog -- a selfless family that's willing to share their lives with this golden boy for the next four, five or more years.  Someone who's willing to spoil him rotten in his retirement years. That accepts the fact he won't chew up your stuff, tear through the house, insist on going running or endlessly chase the ball. No, he'll sit at your feet and love you and protect you. He'll keep her eye out for anything that's not quite right in your household. He'll be the mature, calm, loyal guardian and companion most people long for. And he'll give you a love so deep you'll never regret the shorter number of years with your family. Each day will be precious.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
