FOSTER ME!   or  ADOPT ME!

Location:          Kansas City area

Age:                 approx. 4 yrs

Temperament:   a sweet survivor with street smarts

MACY ANN is what we're calling her, after a sweet young girl who loves dogs.  MACY is starving, filthy and her coat is is dull and lifeless from long months of street life.   Her break finally came when we saw her at a big city pound where her time was up and no one wanted her.  She didn't look nice enough.

MACY is lucky to be alive.  She needs to put on at least 20 pounds and we're already starting that process.  Her body condition was so poor when we pulled her that she could not be spayed until her body weight is significantly higher.   She is currently in a boarding facility receiving lots of tender loving care around the clock from some very caring folks.

MACY seems to like other dogs and do fine with them, unless they get into her face or approach her kennel.  This is typical of starving street dogs, who have had to fight to survive.  She gives kisses to the dogs when all are out together, though, so she will get over these fears as she realizes that she will always have food and shelter and love.  We've seen it happen time and again, and MACY is such a sweetheart that we have no doubt she will come around with TLC, time and patience.

We recommend no cats or small children for the time being, until MACY is better and we can appropriately test her reactions to these situations.

MACY is a heartbreaker.  We cried when we saw her at the pound, knowing she had been through hell.  Yet she came out of her cage with her tail wagging and her eyes full of hope -- it was as if she was saying, These people are feeding me and seem nice.  Are you nice, too?  Are you going to help me?

If you have room in your heart for a dog that's been a victim of cold-hearted humans, and yet is so trusting, think about MACY as your lifetime companion.  She's going to be one of those dogs that is THE best, THE most loving, THE gentlest, THE most loyal.  Because she KNOWS what it's like on the streets.

MACY's ADOPTION FEE:  $300   This fee covers only part of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save.  At minimum it includes spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming and microchip.

TO APPLY:  Click on "FORMS" on the left menu and submit an Adoption Application.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
