FOSTER ME!  or  ADOPT ME!

Location:           Kansas City area

Age:                    approx. 18 months

Temperament:   affectionate, lively, needs to warm up with strangers, has been bounded around in 4 homes and 3 pounds in her short life so desperately needs stability.

CHINA is an adorable young girl who's been dealt some tough cards in her short life.

First she belonged to a family in rural MO who didn't train her how to play gently with their kids.  They dumped her in a very high kill pound complaining that ... you guessed it ... she was too rough with the kids!

From there she was rescued and went to a nearby big city shelter.  Unfortunately they adopted her to a person who ran an in-home daycare center!  Needless to say, CHINA was returned within a few weeks for being too rough with the kids.

Then that same big city shelter re-adopted her to a family with ... yep ... three small kids.  The family was not told about China's roughness with small kids, discovered it, and gave CHINA to a family member who is single.  It turned out he has a bad temper and the two didn't get along, so he dumped her in yet another big city pound to die.

And that's how CHINA came to us.  At the young age of 18 months, she had 3 families and has been in 3 pounds.  All because her original family didn't bother to train her to play gently with children.  And no one since then has taken the time to show her the right way, either.  CHINA has been failed by humans all of her life.

Needless to say, CHINA needs a home with no small children.  She will do fine with older children who understand how to respect and love a dog.  CHINA is a spirited and sweet little girl who, though a little reserved at first, warms up quickly and loves to cuddle and be loved on.

CHINA has been through so much instability in her young life and needs a lifetime home - one that will train her for success instead of set her up for failure!  She's smart as a whip and learns quickly.

The staff at her boarding kennel love CHINA.  She does great with everyone and loves doggie daycare.  She gets along fine with the other dogs and loves her playtime.  Cats are unknown and would need to be tested.

We believe CHINA was probably charged head on by some of her owners along the way.  She doesn't like being charged at, grabbed or manhandled, and will fight it almost to the point of panic.  It's as if someone used to grab her, pin her down and do bad things.  Yet if she's approached calmly and gently, she responds very nicely.  Based on how good she is, we believe that over time even her reaction to head on charging will lessen and disappear.

Will you be CHINA's forever family, who at last brings some real love, commitment and stability to her life?  She's an adorable girl with a loving personality who is LONGING for a lifetime family who will love her and she can love back!

CHINA's ADOPTION FEE:  $200.  This fee covers only part of the vet and boarding expenses for the dogs we save.  It includes spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming and microchip.

TO APPLY:  Click on "FORMS" on the left menu and submit an Adoption Application.

More about China

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
