LOCATION: Kansas City area
AGE: 3 yrs
TEMPERAMENT: classic GSD, good with people and other dogs, also appears to be fine with cats
Foster update 6-30-2010:
Tyler (aka Ozzy T) is a wonderful dog that will make some special family very lucky. He is a low energy dog that loves to lie around the house. He is great with other dogs and even gets along famously with our cat. He seems to be great with children in our neighborhood (he doesn't get too much exposure with them in our home, unfortunately) and has no prey drive to speak of. He is housebroken, has no food aggression and is finally gaining the weight he should have for a dog his size. Tyler is very lovable and is a low maintenance pet. Although he pulls a bit on the leash, I believe in time we will be able to train him out of it.
His only problem is his love affair with vehicles. Tyler gets excited around moving vehicles. It is not bad in a quiet neighborhood but could be a problem if walking him in a high-traffic area. He also gets excited while travelling in the vehicle when he sees other vehicles.
OZZY T is a lucky dude as well as a real looker. He was taken in as a stray by a kind woman in southern MO last winter. Unfortunately, her senior German Shepherd has become seriously ill, and OZZY T was just too much for the lady and the ill senior dog. As much as she didn't want to, the lady relinquished OZZY T in order to care for her ill dog.
OZZY T is about 85 lbs of pure gorgeous-ness. He's a classic GSD. He's good with other dogs (kept wanting to play with the senior, ill GS in the home). He also appears do fine with cats. He met one cat at the boarding kennel, sniffed the cat and turned away. We have not tested him with small dogs but suspect he will do okay.
He's housetrained and fairly calm for a 3 yr old. He does have plenty of energy but can also be nice and calm in his kennel. He needs basic training, such as leash manners but is smart and will be easily trained. OZZY T can climb a 6 ft chain link kennel fence, but does beautifully when a top is put on. It's doubtful he could climb a 6' privacy fence however.
OZZY T needs a home where he will get exercise and lots of love. He's confused right now, and a bit depressed at being in a boarding kennel after having been in a home for 6 months.
OZZT T is currently having some serizures. We do not know why and we are checking with the vet about medication. Ozzy T also has a phobia about cars and needs to be on a quiet street. He needs to be crated to ride in a car. Ozzy is a large shepherd that needs a large securely fenced back yard to run around in.
9/21/10
Ozzy is doing much better. He is learning to walk by cars and look to me to see what he's supposed to do. He has the perfect temperment. He is great with every person and animal he encounters. Even animals that are aggressive to him, he barks to tell them to leave him alone and he walks away. He doesn't seem to want to play very much, but absolutely loves his walks and will require at least one long and one short walk a day. He is very smart and we just put him in a locked bedroom when we're not home and he's just fine. We have also crated him and he does well.
OZZY T's ADOPTION FEE: $300. This covers all his vetting which includes his neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment, all shots, micrcohip and deworming. Ozzy T is about a $1,000 dog!
