June 2014:John Barker is now divorced and reports that Boo (aka Greta) died of rectal cancer a few months ago. ;-( Wants to foster/adopt another youngster.
FOSTER ME OR ADOPT ME!
Location: Kansas City, MO Area Age: 4 Months Temperament: ADORABLE, fluffy, sweet, smart, energetic puppy
GRETA is a new arrival at MOGS from a local Animal Control facility where her days had run out. At only 4 months old, this sweet little girl's life of starvation was about to end.
We first met GRETA when she was in a dark, nasty kennel -- absolutely scared to death. We couldn't leave her there so now she is a MOGS Dog, safe and looking for that special forever home.
She is a typical puppy - all exuberance and paws! She isn't completely potty trained but it won't take long to cure that. She is very good with the foster's two big German Shepherd boys - scared at first but quickly came around and joined the little pack. She doesn't have any food aggression in her despite her starvation (note her backbone showing, even through all that black fur). She seems to be very smart and was picking up on thher forster brothers' signals and behavior shortly after arriving.
After GRETA had dinner she climbed up next to her foster mom on the couch and was asleep within moments. It just doesn't get any sweeter than that.
GRETA is a living doll, all fluff and fun and love. Can you make room in your heart for her? She will return the love 100 times over!
Update 6-10-2010: Greta is coming along wonderfully. She will still occasionally have an "accident" in the house, but they are rare. She is crate trained, sits pretty for treats, and has learned to not jump on people. She is super-smart, if a bit hard-headed, and is very alert and protective.
Update 6-19-2010 Greta is doing quite well. She is pretty much completely potty trained, is learning how to behave in a home, and does not rush the doors and gates when I'm going in and out, and no longer tries to use me as a chew toy. :)
She is a little spit-fire! She will definitely need puppy classes and a firm, consistent leader in her new adoptive home. But she is super smart and sweet to boot. She's going to be a great companion to some lucky new forever home.
There is a lot of potential in this little girl! Won't you make her yours?
GRETA's adoption fee: $200. This includes all her vetting - her spay, heartworm test, her current puppy shots, deworming and microchip.

We're picky about our adopters.
Are you sure you're up to having a GSD? They're not for everyone. They take a lot of time, effort, training. They shed year round. They're big. They scare lots of people. They "mouth" and herd. They're usually strong-willed and stubborn. You have to have references and a home visit. If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
Will the dog be an inside family pet?We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home? We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone. You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone. A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car. Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into. Gates are opened. Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
