Meet Polo
** A NEW TRIPOD **

We got the desperate call late on a Saturday night.

Starving and hit by a car, Polo had a massive leg fracture.  His back left leg was swollen beyond belief and he was in excruciating pain.  Still, this great boy didn't utter a single complaint as we raced to help him.

We were so hopeful that his leg could be saved and consulted several wonderful vets.  But in the end we had to amputate.  On April 26 this doll of a 9  month old boy became a TRIPOD.   And the best looking tripod around, we might add ;-0

Polo is now back at our wonderful vet clinic / boarding facility in the care of people who adore him.  He is SO happy to be free of pain.  Did you see the picture of that huge smile?  Wow.

Polo is skin and bones - a mere 59 pounds at intake and has lost a few more pounds due to surgery.  He needs to put on weight!  When he does that and adjusts to his 3-legged status, Polo will be one hunka hunka dog!  His coat  will shine.  He'll go potty without falling over.  (He's already learning to balance and use his tail as a "rudder".)

Polo's temperament seems great.  Just two days after losing his leg, he's playing with a 10 lb. puppy behind the front desk at the vet clinic!  We'll know more about his personality after he recovers further from surgery and believe he'll be a great family dog.

He's great in the car and loves to ride.  He also seems fine on a leash.  We haven't yet had him around kids or cats, though we think he'll probably do fine with both.  That will have to be tested after he's further recovered

ADOPTION FEE:   $300.  Includes all his vetting (an incredible bargain since his vetting will cost over $1,400).

TO ASSIST POLO: Please consider sponsoring him so we may continue paying off our substantial vet bills!

PLEASE HELP US HELP POLO.

He's only 9-12 months old.
We couldn't let him die this way.
And the sweet guy hasn't showed us what a trooper he is - he didn't utter a single complaint despite intense pain.

Please help Polo by making a donation toward Polo's surgery expenses.  Single and recurring

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
