DARBY belonged to a backyard breeder who got busted for having way too many dogs and no breeding license.  She and LIZZIE came in together, dogs used to breed and make money for someone who couldn't even be bothered to get a license.  Naturally, she had no shots, no vet care, no nothing.

DARBY is actually more fortunate than the other dogs who remain with this backyard breeder.  She is headed for a real life with a family!

DARBY is more outgoing than his sister LIZZIE.  She was sooo glad to get to the boarding kennel and out of that noisy, smelly pound that she just pranced around and wondered why everyone didn't stop to pet her.

Foster home update:

Darby does very well with other dogs; she made friends with the dogs at her foster home right away.  She also does good with kids, though she's best suited to a home without very young kids (recommend school age and older).  She tends to get overly excited around the rowdy, loud little kiddos.  She probably is not a fit for a home with a cat.  She likes to chase but doesn't seem to be overly agressive.  Darby is a high-energy dog; she'll do best in a home where she gets plenty of daily exercise (walking and/or running).  She seeks reassurance and love often.  She craves being loved and petted but doesn't still for too much at a time!  I don't think she's had any leash training but is starting to improve there and with understanding "house rules"; she is very eager to please and listens well.  I think with some consistent training and love, she will be a fabulous pet for someone.  She does appear to be housebroken, only one accident in a month at her foster home.  She does fine with being kenneled also.  She likes to retrieve things from various parts of the house and drag them around to show off her hard work.  She's not destructive with them, just a "collector."  I think with a regular exercise routine, she will give up this habit though!

DARBY's adoption fee is $300.  That includes her vetting (spay, microchip, all shots, heartworm test and treatment where necessary, deworming).

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
