TEMPERAMENT / BEHAVIOR
Phoenix is a full of life and energy type of boy that loves to do zoomies and play. He is ready to greet you at any time with a smile and tail wags (his tail is always wagging!). He loves to play with toys. Not too sure how to play fetch yet but is getting better. He would be a medium energy dog that will need 20-30 min of daily exercise to stay happy. His favorite game is tag and will play bow then run to play chase.
He requests a home that loves to cuddle and likes to snuggle as he is a love bug! He will put his full weight into a good butt or head scratch. He is a little hesitant to roll over on his belly due to some past trauma, but we are working on it, and he is doing a great job.
TRAINING
He has not shown any resource guarding, but he does love his food (common in starvation cases) but will wait for you to put the bowl down and allow it to be picked up with no issues. He is learning to take his treats gently but is a work in progress. He has not offered to climb or jump fence or to dig under. Will need a stronger type of bedding resistant to scratching as he does like to nest before laying down. Currently he has a K9 ballistic bed.
OTHER ANIMALS
Phoenix has shown interest in cats and is okay, unless they run from him (he sees that as a game of chase). He has been great with dogs and will be doing an eval at a local doggie daycare soon.
PHOENIX's ADOPTION FEE: $350
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
