Foster home update:
2-16-2010 Update
Granger has changed a lot since we brought him into our home. He has been trained to sit and stay BEFORE he rushes his bowl at feeding time. He is house broken and loves to run in the back yard with the other family dog he is staying with.
Granger still goes into his crate when the family leaves willingly which is an improvement over where he was when we brought him into our home. He is such a smart dog, getting him into his crate only took a few Kongs of peanut butter and he got the hang of it right away.
I have to confirm that he is part hound, he follows his nose where ever it goes. He can sniff out treats incredibly well, no matter where you hide them.
It has been confirmed that Granger is good with cats, kids, other dogs and family members. Like I said before, he likes to sniff out everything and that even extends to the family cats. Sometimes giving them a sniff gets Granger a WHAP on the nose from the male cat of the house, but it doesn't escalate beyond that. He just walks away.
This is a great dog. Good disposition. Willing to sleep on the bed with you when needed. Willing to clean up the food you don't want even if it hasn't dropped on the floor yet. He is even willing to lie on your lap and the couch at the same time while you enjoy down time at the end of the day.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Granger is well tempered and easy with friends, family and little kids that seem to hang out at my house. He is a constant companion, which means that no matter where you go in the house, he will follow you and wants to be with you no matter where you are. He eats well but needs a lot of control to keep him from his bowl. He loves food to say the least.
Granger still needs some house training but generally, he is fine.
We keep him in his crate when we leave the house as a family and he accepts it well. We have managed to get him to this point by filling a KONG with peanut butter and giving that to him while he is in the kennel. Seems to work well for him.
_________________________________________________________
Granger's story is all too typical of southern Missouri dogs. As an 8 wk old puppy he was found running loose with two of his siblings. A kind man adopted Granger and his friend adopted the other two. But the kind man was living with an elderly lady, who eventually had to move, and the kind man was forced to move and didn't take the dog with him. So there was Granger, dumped at 8 weeks old, and now dumped again at 8 months old. He was taken to a rural pound to die by gas. When we were called, he was scheduled to be put in the gas chamber that afternoon.
Granger is a hound mix, with some shepherd. He is very much a puppy and is very confused at what he's done wrong to be wrenched from his home and tossed into a pound, and now into boarding. He misses his home terribly. He's about 55 lbs, has a wonderfully sweet personality, is a doll of a youngster, and handsome to boot. He gets along well with other dogs, rode very well in the car, is a bit shy (adorable!), and would be a great family addition. He LOVES his time out in the exercise yard. Granger just needs a PERMANENT home where he can spend the rest of his life loving and being loved.
Granger's adoption fee is $200. For an explanation of our fees, policies, and what vetting is covered, please visit us at: http://www.mogsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption.
