CONGRATULATIONS TO Sue and Dave, AND to Lady!  They fostered Lady, fell in love with her, and now has a fantastic lifetime home with several doggie siblings and even a cat or two!!

Temperament: Sweet girl

LADY is a sweet girl who is horribly confused! She belonged to two college students in a small Missouri town who dumped her when they left at the end of the spring semester. They gave her to "friends" but those "friends" kept her a couple months and then called one of the highest kill pounds in the state to come get her. They just didn't have time, etc.

But the officer who picked Lady up told a different story. "Lady couldn't wait to get out of there so bad that she practically ran to my truck and jumped in." The officer said there were four small children screaming, yelling and terrorizing the house, including the dog.

LADY has had several months of real trauma now and needs (a) security, (b) a calm home, and (c) some understanding. She is hand shy right now so we believe she was hit, either by her first owners or by the family with small children. She does NOT like to be hugged near her head, it makes her nervous. And she should not be backed into a corner to approach her, as she doesn't trust what's gong to happen to her yet. When our volunteer took her outside for a walk, and a quiet conversation in the grass, LADY responded by visibly relaxing. She even came right up when asked to. However, she got nervous when a hug was attempted.

What LADY needs is what so many discarded dogs need - someone who will love her enough to let her trust in her own time, and not force her too quickly. We believe that an experienced dog guardian will soon bring her confidence and trust back up. We do not recommend small children right now, as she may associate them with her prior experience.

LADY is a gorgeous girl who will make the right someone a wonderful lifetime companion. She will be most grateful for a loving, calm home. The officer who rescued her really, really wanted her saved. That says a lot.

Is Not Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
