ZEVA is a stunning dark sable German Shepherd who was a pandemic victim -- and is now eagerly looking for a new family to love on, play with, have fun with, be active with, and enjoy life with!

BACKSTORY
Found as a stray with no collar, tags, or microchip.  Finder made every effort to find her owner and listed her on multiple local, regional and national sites without success, and after a month of no response surrendered her to MOGS.  She doesn't show any signs of being mistreated, and the most likely scenario is that someone bought her during the pandemic without doing their research and realizing her high energy level and needs -- and when she grew into an adult either gave her away or somehow got rid of her.

TEMPERAMENT
Super sweet, loving, very person-driven -- she loves to please you!  She attaches quickly to people and will bond quickly with her family. She's only 55 lbs but it's 55 lbs of love, activity, and fun.  She just adores life, adores people, adores playing with other dogs.  HOUSE MANNERS:  Crate trained.  Potty trained.  Wonderful in the car.  Generally good in the house, is just constantly on the move and will put her paws on the counter to look for toys that have been put up. Please remember that at just 1 year old, she's still very much a puppy!

ENERGY LEVEL
High energy and high drive!!  This girl is amazing -- we wish we could bottle and sell her energy and activity level.  So much more effective than energy drinks!  She'd be a champion agility dog, probably also dock-diving, flyball or any other activity you choose to get into with her.  She could definitely do some types of SAR work, such as tracking and HR work.  She is not a couch potato and must have an active family who know how to work her and do it regularly.  TREADMILL WORK:  She is currently 'running' 2 miles every day on a treadmill -- at a speed of 6.5 mph and an incline of 50%!  We highly recommend treadmill work with her in her new home, even if her new family are runners -- so that on days when weather doesn't permit or her humans aren't feeling well, she can still get that exercise.

PEOPLE
She loves people ;-)  She's great with strangers and not at all shy with new people.  Zeva is a very outgoing and confident dog.  At doggie daycare, she loved playing with the dogs, but several times did climb a 5' fence just to go to the front desk to hang out with the people.  She has never made the slightest attempt to climb the 6' fence at her foster home.  KIDS:  recommend older kids 10 yr and up, solely because of her speed and energy.

OTHER ANIMALS
DOGS:  does well with other dogs as small as 10 lbs.  Immediately made friends with finder's dogs, and with the foster's dogs.  Has been in doggie daycare with small and large dogs and did great, loved every minute of it.  CATS:  have not had the opportunity to test.

TRAINING
Incredibly intelligent girl!  She learned "sit" and "down" commands in just a day or so, and is doing very well with wait, stay, come, in, out and off!  She picks up quickly and wants to please you -- a great combination for training.  She has a natural instinct for structured and even advanced training  and would be easily trained for multiple disciplines per above (agility, SAR, etc).

HEALTH
No known health conditions.  Spayed, up to date on shots and preventives, and microchipped.

REQUIREMENTS TO ADOPT
MUST have a securely fenced yard, 6' fence required.  Must also have a doggie buddy of roughly her energy level and play style to help blow her energy -- OR possibly a family that is dedicated to high levels of daily exercise such as running, treadmill work, etc.  At her foster home, Zeva "runs" 2 miles every day -- on a treadmill, at a 50% incline and 6.5 mph speed (takes about 20 minutes).

OVERALL
Zeva is a super loving, sweet, gorgeous, and outgoing dog who also happens to have very high energy and very high drive.  She would be excellent in almost any activity you choose to do with her -- agility work, SAR (Search & Rescue), flyball, tracking, dock diving, disk work, etc.  Whether through such activities or through daily jogging and treadmill work, she needs lots of exercise every single day and must have an active family.

If you're looking for a stunning, young, trainable German Shepherd
to be active with and love forever,
ZEVA may be your ideal family member!

ZEVA'S ADOPTION FEE:   $350
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
