Foster Home Update: 8/23/09
I have more good news about Carrie progress. She is showing less signs of separation anxiety with each new day, as she realizes that the people in her life can leave her sight and that we will return! Our best tool has been the "Shaker Can" (pop can with pennies inside) that we use when she is barking or whining because she is unhappy to be out of our sight. We do not need to use this much anymore :-) Even when she is in her crate.
Carrie is responding well to learning the COME, SIT, WAIT, OFF and QUIET commands. We will soon be adding SETTLE, DOWN, STAY and HUPP.
Carrie/ can be calm, playful, loving, friendly, lazy, just what ever our mood is she is ready to be the same. We have a sweet, very smart loyal foster that is going to make someone a awesome pet.
For all the sadness this girl has gone threw she has an ever loving sweetness that just wants to give and be loved.
I think that Carrie is somewhat on the thin side and has not picked up so we are going to ad some cooked chicken, cottage cheese and tuna to her diet. She looks good, her coat is healthy but I would like her to feel less ribby.

Foster Home Update: 8/15/09
Carrie is truly a sweet girl and we enjoy her. She is getting along well with our Pug & our Australian Shepherd. They did go threw the normal adjustment to get their order in the pack established and now they all know their place so we do let them roam together in the house while we are home. All is good.
Carrie does enjoy toys, tennis balls and a good game of tug o war. She is gentle in play and does honor our request to the end of playtime.
We are working on spending time outside in the exercise area with out people present, at first she did throw a fit but that is becoming a more calm situation for her. Walking on lead in the heal position is also something we are working on and Carrie has made great improvement with this. She now shows great excitement when we get our walking gear out to go. Another favorite for Carrie is getting groomed and eating cherry tomatoes as treats.
We have found that Carrie does want to chase the kitten that lives outside, she does not act like she wants to do harm to the kitten but that she is very curious about it.

Meet Carrie:
Carrie is a beautiful girl who had heartless owners. They moved to a small town in Missouri, told their new neighbor they were "getting rid" of her, then dumped her in an isolated area where she was picked up as a stray. She was taken into rescue just before authorities were scheduled to euthanize her.

Carrie is just coming into our program, so we are still learning ablout her. However, so far she does well with other dogs and plays nicely. She is a friendly, sweet girl who will undoubtly be a great family pet! Email us for an application if you would like to give Carrie a FOREVER home!

Carrie's adoption fee is $300.

Good with Dogs

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
