Leo (a 07.21) needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?
About Leo (a 07.21) | |

|
BACKGROUND Leo came from the Wichita shelter as a stray. He passed every single one of their temperament tests, including testing around people, dogs, and food. The reason they wouldn't keep him? He's heartworm positive, and they only treat a couple of heartworm cases at a time. So gentle Leo was slated to die at animal control. When no one else stepped up to save him, we took a deep breath and took him in even though every foster home is full and we have 17 other dogs in boarding. For that reason he's in boarding and he desperately wants out!
TEMPERAMENT Since he's in boarding we haven't seen him in a home setting. The shelter notes say, "This dog has been shy, submissive, or timid while staying at the Kansas Humane Society." He seems to be a truly nice dog with an even temperament who gets along with everyone. He had some fur missing on his chest that the vets think indicated he wore a harness for long periods of time.
PEOPLE Leo has met a lot of different people at the shelter, at animal control, during transport, at our boarding kennel, and our volunteers. He's been good with everyone he's met. KIDS: he's been around babies up to older kids at a Petsmart event and just wanted to kiss them and love on them. He's very people-friendly to adults and kids.
OTHER ANIMALS He passed the dog test at the shelter with no problem. We've tried to integrate him into play group at boarding, but he was so shy that we're going to try him with just one or two dogs. He preferred to stay at the door, showing uncertainty but no aggression.
HOUSE MANNERS We don't know his house manners, but he keeps a clean kennel at boarding and appears to be house-trained or mostly so.
OVERALL Leo is a beautiful boy with a gentle temperament. He's being treated for heartworm and is otherwise health, neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. We've fallen in love with this scared boy who doesn't understand what's happened to him.
If you're looking for a big, handsome boy
to love you forever,
LEO may be your guy!
