BELLA is a beautiful bi-color girl with a super loving personality who makes you fall in love with her at first meeting!  Sadly she's has never had a family of her own -- and is now eagerly waiting for one special family to love her and give her the home she so richly deserves!

BACKGROUND
Bella was a breeder dog at a large, multi-breed breeding facility in a rural area.  She spent her entire first 6 years of life putting out puppies for sale.  When the breeder was finished with her, she came to us.  She was heartworm positive when she was surrendered.

TEMPERAMENT
She's a doll!  She greets you with a smile and a "Did you come to see me? Can we please have fun? I'm ready!"  She loves attention and just wants to be around you.  She's starved for affection and, although she was clearly not abused at the breeding facility, she's begging for real love from a real family in a real home.  She keeps a fairly clean kennel in boarding and we expect will be easily house trained.

PEOPLE/KIDS
She seems to love everyone!  She begs for attention and greets everyone with a smile.  Her joy at seeing you makes you smile.

OTHER DOGS
The breeder reported that she was dog aggressive, but when we asked for more infomation on her exact behavior history it turned out that this report was based on the fact that Bella and a large Malamute were left alone in an enclosed area, unsupervised, and a fight broke out.  The breeder didn't know who started it or how it started, and did not reveal if it was an attempt to breed them.  But because the malamute had an injury to his leg, the breeder called Bella aggressive.  However, the vet reported that Bella didn't react to the other dogs or the barking/noise at all during several days at the vet's office, either when dogs passed her kennel or when she passed other dogs.  We haven't seen her in a home setting with other dogs since she's currently in boarding  (due to lack of qualified foster homes), but we haven't seen any reactivity from her.  She's calm when other dogs go by her kennel or when she goes by theirs.  In addition, we've had her out on a pair-walk with another GSD and she didn't show any signs of aggression.  We have more to learn about this, and to be ultra cautious it might be best for her to be an only dog.  But it's also entirely possible that she can live with another dog who's calm and non-dominant.  We haven't seen her around small dogs or cats yet.

TRAINING
She will likely need standard training on basic commands, since she's only lived in a kennel her whole life.  But she's a smart girl and most definitely wants to please you, and we believe she'll do great with consistency and leadership.

HEALTH
In good health.  Spayed, is up to date on all her shots, and microchipped. She's been treated for a very light light case of heartworm and is ready to go home

OVERALL
She's a lovebug who just wants to start really LIVING - wants to love, be loved, sleep on a soft bed, have walks, play in the yard, have a real home with people  and a real life.   She will have some adjustments to make after living in a kennel her whole life, but she's smart and wants to please you so will make those adjustments pretty quickly.

IDEAL FAMILY
A moderately active family who will interact with her and shower her with love.  STRONGLY PREFER a securely fenced yard.  A patient family who's willing to show her the ropes and educate her on life in a real home.  If other dogs are in the hosuehold, a family who will take appropriate steps to slowly introduce the dogs and supervise them while teaching Bella appropriate interaction skills.

If you're looking for a gorgeous, mature, loving German Shepherd
who has good-but-not-crazy energy,
BELLA may be your ideal family member!

BELLA'S ADOPTION FEE:   $350
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
