Meet Diesel--
Location: Wichita, KS
Age: approx. 2 years
Temperament: Very sweet, outgoing, loves attention
Foster Home Update 8/12/09: Diesel is a really awesome dog! At first, I thought he was rowdy but that was simply because he was on crate rest for so long, who wouldn't be restless? We've been working hard on teaching him to wait at the door before he goes out. This was hard during his recovery period because he just wanted to be outside. However, he is getting more outdoor time and freedom to play with other dogs since his heartworm treatment is over. He is great with his canine companions as I have never seen him get out of control, even when it was deserved. He does not bark, dig or chew when outside. He is not destructive in our home, just hairy. He knows when you expect him to go potty. He will load in his crate, even if he doesn't want to. :) Before he loads in his crate, he likes his head scratched and he is much more eager if you give him a treat before and after he loads. He does shed a ton but loves to be brushed. He's not a big fan of water but will stand in it. He isn't too keen on hose baths but because of his large size, that has been my only option for him. He will tolerate the water and expect to get wet because he will shake and shake and shake until you need a bath yourself. It takes him a while to dry completely because of his thick dense coat. He is very smart and will train perfectly for someone that makes the time for him. He will be a very loyal dog! He also has learned to be patient and wait for his food. He would knock his food down and jump up and bat at the bowl in my hand when he first arrived. Now he sits and waits before it is placed in front of him. He loves to drink cold fresh water. He eats fast and will scoot his bowl around with his nose. He will not eat if he is not hungry. He responds well to correction. Diesel is very smart, learns quickly and is a great dog. :)
Diesel was picked up stray and ended up in a high kill shelter in Kansas. He was very thin, badly in need of some TLC and heart worm postive. He's been treated for the heart worm infection and is now recuperating and eating all the good food he wants. He'll need to be kept calm for the next few weeks as he recovers from his heart worm treatment, but came through the painful ordeal with a wagging tail. He enjoys being petted and after his recovery in about a month, he'll make a wonderful jogging partner or ball fetcher. He likes toys, gets along with other dogs and children and though he shows an interest in cats, does not appear to be agressive with them. He's a real hunky GSD with a great personaliy to match...wouldn't you like to give him the loving, forever home he deserves?
