CUDDLES
*SPECIAL CASE*

* FOSTER ME or ADOPT ME *

Location:             Nebraska
Age: approx.      approx. 2 years
Temperament:   sweet, playful, likes to be a bit bossy

CUDDLES (aka KIKI)
came to us from a very high kill pound where she was to be killed because she had treatable mange.  She was starved and had obviously been on the streets a very long time, despite being so young.  She is a survivor, this little girl, and so grateful to have a foster home and good food and a full belly.

KIKI had the worst case of mange we've seen.  We were shocked to see her condition.  Her face, neck, legs and paws were covered in scabs and oozing blood from the mites that cause demodectic mange (which is non-contagious).  She was also a bag of bones, weighing just 48 pounds when she should have been at least 70 lbs. KIKI was also suffering from a yeast infection, bacterial infection and hook worms. It's a miracle she was free of heartworm.

We immediately rushed KIKI to our vet, where she stayed for several weeks to be treated for the mange.  She was started on ProMeris and given special mange baths 3-4 times a week.  She got special scrubs, topical treatments, and medicines for her many ailments.

KIKI may have periodic reoccurrences of this non-contagious demodectic mange in the future when she is under stress.  This is pretty common for dogs who get mange early in life, when their immune systems aren't fully developed yet.  Fortunately, it's easily treated with a good diet and ProMeris (an inexpensive topical applied like Frontline).

KIKI
is now well, and full of life and energy.
She was sweet, shy, and timid  at first but now is part of the gang. She's energetic, cheerful, bold and loves to play with her toys and foster siblings. She runs 4-5 miles, 5 days a week, with her foster parents. Even with all that exercise, Kiki has gained weight nicely and now is normal weight.

KIKI
loves to cuddle up to you on the couch -- she definitely lost her fear of men quickly thanks to her wonderful foster dad!  She sleeps in the bedroom in her crate with the door open, and stays in her closed crate when her foster parents are at work.  She gets a potty break at noon.

No cats or small dogs for KIKI - a remnant of her days trying to survive on the streets.   She's fine with kids but due to her energy and exuberance, we recommend a home without very young children.  Children over about age 8 would be fine.

CUDDLES
has one more mange treatment and several mange baths left to go, but she's a new dog!!!! We're also treating her for coccidia which we believe she was carrying from the start. She is on good food and supplements and has gained weight nicely. She is now at an excellent weight and her coat is actually starting to shine! Hard to believe this is the bloody dog we grabbed from death's door just 6 weeks ago.

CUDDLES
personlity is wonderful. She adores playing with another dog, and is full of life, vigor, vitality! She is learning to walk on a gentle leader and doing beautifully. She is almost completely housetrained and will let you know when she really needs to go out.  Every day she seems to gain "sparkle" -- she bounds happily out of her crate eager to go outdoors and play. CUDDLES loves the outdoors, and she loves her people and dog buddies.

More about Cuddles aka Kiki

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
