FOSTER ME OR ADOPT ME!

Foster update - 08/28/2010:

Serena is a Belgian Malinois mix approximately 1 ½ years old.  Besides being a beautiful dog, she has a great personality, is very loving, and is highly intelligent.   She has lots of energy (age-appropriate) without being out of control, loves to run and play.  She tries very hard to please her handler and do what she is supposed to do.   She lives with 5 other big dogs and plays well with them; she has also lived with several cats in peaceful co-existence.

Serena loves people and would be a great family dog; due to her size and general enthusiasm for life, she might do better with children who are a little older than toddler stage, simply due to size and balance issues for the child.

A fenced yard would be necessary; Serena has long legs and runs like the wind – beautiful to watch, and the ability to stretch those legs on a daily basis is necessary at her age.

We have one issue we’re currently working on - she is somewhat anxious in unfamiliar surroundings.   Until she gains a sense of security with a given situation, she’s somewhat jumpy and ill-at-ease.  She responds well to a gentle hand, and it doesn’t take a long time for her to acclimate, but it is an issue that Serena’s new family would need to be aware of and be willing to work with.

Beautiful Serena is a Belgian Malinois mix. Although we are generally a shepherd rescue, how could we say no to this lovely pup and fellow herder?! Serena is crate trained, sleeping through the night, great on a leash, knows sit and down. She also gets along great with all the other animals she's been in contact with.

Serena's adoption fee is $200. For an explanation of our fees and policies, please visit us at

More about Serena

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
