MOLLY came from a difficult situation. She was originally on a farm in Oklahoma and was an outdoor dog. When she just 18 months old, the farmers decided they didn't want her anymore and put her on Craig's List. They gave her away to an 82 year old man from Arkansas. He was an extreme hoarder and Molly ended up living in a horrific house with the man and another German Shepherd. Both dogs were kept indoors 24/7, with pee and poop covering all surfaces. Since the owner was a hoarder, there was almost no free floor space and dried feces were inches thick. The smell would knock you out from 10 feet outside the house. Mice were on the main floor and rats in the basement. Every once in a while when the man opened the door, the dogs would push past him and get out, racing into the fresh air and sunshine for all they were worth. A neighbor would usually round them up and bring them back.
Molly lived like this for a little over two years, at which time we got a call from the neighbor because conditions kept deteriorating and the man's health declined. We drove 5 hours to Arkansas and dealt with a very difficult negotiation. After much holding of breath, much cajoling, and much talking, we brought both dogs back to Kansas City to be rehomed! (Sadly, the man promptly got a 7 yr old GSD after that. A few months later he passed on on his neighbor's porch, and we were again called to help. We called on a local rescue we'd worked with on the first trip down, and they were able to take her and find her an outstanding home in Arkansas.)
Molly lived in hell for the first 3+ yrs of her life. The humans who owned her were careless with her life, and subjected to her terrible conditions. TODAY MOLLY HAS BEEN ADOPTED TO A WONDERFUL YOUNG COUPLE WHO ADORE HER, have bought their first home with fenced yard, and are very active.
After going through so much at the hands of humans, Molly finally ended up with the good humans and is now safe and loved for life. We're VERY grateful to the kind neighbor who called us and worked tirelessly with us to get Molly and her brother safe, then notified us of the man's death and asked for help for his new GSD, which we were able to give.

MOLLY'S ADOPTION FEE: $350
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.
