AGGIE is an absolutely striking GSD girl with unusual and beautiful markings.  We know of one other GSD in the area with the same markings, so they probably came from the same breeder.

BACKGROUND
Aggie was a stray at a shelter, but it appears that she was dumped by a someone who had a farm.  Her left ear flops over but it's not from natural causes.  There's a tear in the ear where it appears someone tore out an ear tag (the tags used on livestock).  She also has a tatoo in that ear, but it’s not a breeder's tatoo and instead seems to be one like those used by farmers.  It's likely that she was used on a farm to round up livestock, then dumped when she was no longer needed -- and instead of cutting the tag off they just ripped it out of her ear, causing a tear and the ear to flop over.

PERSONALITY
She came to us as an independent lady who seemed somewhat indifferent to people. and once we discovered what had happened to her ear it made some sense.  If she'd been used as a working farm dog and kept outside, she and her owner would not have formed much of a loving bond and she would have been all about business. But in the time she's been with us that's changed!  She’s still fairly independent but once she forms a bond with you she’s loving and warm!  There’s a look in her eye then that says “I never knew it could be this way” – and it melts your heart.

She's been in boarding to lack of qualified foster homes, but even in spite of that she's become a girl who loves to see us coming, go for walks, be petted and loved on.  She still adores being outside and always will adore going for walks and playing outdoors.  And although she isn’t crazy about being kenneled, she does kennel well.  She also keeps a clean kennel at the boarding facility and has never chewed up any bedding or toys.  She’s a mature lady with pretty good manners who wants to reach the holy grail of a real, indoor, loving home and family!

She'll do very well with a family who (1) has a securely fenced yard, (2) spends a lot of time outdoors, and (3) isn’t necessarily looking for a cuddler.  Both the kennel staff and our volunteers have come to really love Aggie -- she's a very special lady.

ENERGY LEVEL
Medium to high.  She ADORES being outdoors in any form -- taking walks, going for a run, playing in the yard.

PEOPLE / KIDS
Aggie has been good with every human she's met while we've had her.  She does bark at strangers who come up to her kennel door and we suspect she'll be good at alerting to the presence of strangers.  KIDS:  She’s been around a 6 yr old child and did fine.  She didn’t engage with the child but had no problems being around her.  Aggie generally is a bit indifferent until she’s formed a relationship with a human, so it wasn’t surprising.  Once she forms a relationship with the child, we think she’ll be a good companion and possibly even protector.

OTHER ANIMALS

Aggie loves playing with the other larger dogs in play groups at the boarding kennel and has been around the small dogs at the kennel and did fine.  She loves to wrestle with her large dog friends and is very tolerant of even a  pushy playmate.  The boarding kennel staff trust her to ‘handle’ even their most rough/obnoxious players and call her a great ‘mediator’, even crediting her as being the reason certain dogs are able to stay in play groups because she tolerates obnoxious play that most dogs wouldn’t.  She doesn’t seem to be toy possessive and often shares her tennis balls with other dogs.  She gets along with all of them.  PREY DRIVE:  she loves to chase squirrels and other critters while on walks and will undoubtedly keep your backyard free of them.

TRAINING
Aggie is very smart and will catch on quickly to new routines and schedules.  Because she is so intelligent, she needs you to be a good leader -- educate her on what you expect, be consistent about the rules, and enforce them.

HEALTH
Aggie is in excellent health, spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped.

OVERALL
Aggie is an amazing dog with a striking coat and appearance.  In the time she's been with us, she's come to love the life of an indoor dog -- and the attention, loving, and petting of the humans she gets to know.  She still LOVES the outdoors and would adore having a family to walk, run, and play with.  She MUST have a securely fenced yard, with a 6' fence strongly preferred.  She needs a fairly active family who will spend time with her outdoors frequently.  She would also LOVE to have another larger dog to play and wrestle with!!

If you're looking for a stunning, mature German Shepherd
lady
who will love you forever,
AGGIE could be your new BFF!

AGGIE'S ADOPTION FEE:   $300
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

STOP!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER!

  1. We're picky about our adopters.
  2. Are you sure you're up to having a GSD?  They're not for everyone.  They take a lot of time, effort, training.  They shed year round.  They're big.  They scare lots of people.  They "mouth" and herd.  They're usually strong-willed and stubborn.  You have to have references and a home visit.  If you're not willing or able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time or ours applying.
  3. Will the dog be an inside family pet? We do not adopt to outdoor-only homes. All dogs must be indoor dogs.
  4. Do you leave your dog outdoors when you're not home?   We do not adopt to homes that leave their animals outside when they're gone.  You must put your dogs indoors when you're gone.  A 3 yr old adopted MOGS dog died when the owners went to run errands, left her outdoors, the gate was somehow opened, and she was hit by a car.  Tragic and 100% preventable. Even privacy fences get broken into.  Gates are opened.  Thieves steal dogs. Never leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
  5. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes?  New baby? Divorce?  Moving?   How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up?
  6. Will you make a lifetime commitment?  It's your responsibility to keep your dog safe, loved and cared for FOR LIFE.
  7.  Do you understand we expect you to keep that lifetime commitment?  It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
  8. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply.
